Question for the GSR owners with the Drag Gen 3 turbo kit
My car is bogging like a **** below 4000 rpms. I mean launching is a pain in the *** because either I wheel hop nasty or I bog so bad the engine feels like dying.
My Fuel Pressure at the rail is like 40psi. Is this too low? Also I have the 12:1 Vortec FPR that came with the kit.
What can I do to improve the performance without turning up the boost? I heard that getting a 10:1 ortiface for the FPR will dramatically improve the performance because right now I am like 120+ psi at the fuel rail. Also I am running 310cc injectors.
Anyone can offer any tips and hints?
Oh yeah, I'm on the stock block and had the Drag Gen kit for a 1 year now.
I have boosted anywhere from 6 - 11 pounds before I put the TiAL (6 lb spring)
this year's spring. All I am saying is that 12:1 FPR may be a little too much fuel pressure but has kept my stock block at 192-195 compression across the block.
Not bad for a 45,000 mile 1998 GSR!
(Watch me jinx myself!)
Thanks for the support FI Honda/Acura owners.
PEACE

Ya, your compression seems alittle low for a GSR. You're probably even on the low minimum servicable limit on an B18b. Your GSR should be in the 220 range.

there is nothing wrong with those compression numbers. There is lots that can effect the numbers consistency is the key with a compression test and you have that.
With 310cc injectors lower your base FP to about 35psi and get an 8:1 disk for the FMU and you should be fine.
What is your timing set at?

35psi? I mean the car idles and acts very strangely at 38-39psi. It almost wants
to die all the time in low Rs in first gear and sometimes second gear. I used to have to double clutch all the time to prevent the car from sputtering out.
Ever since I raised it to 40+ psi the car acts a tad bit better but I still get crazy bogging.
8:1 FPR? Where can I order this and how much does it cost? And also what do you
recommend as far as maximum boost for a stock block with almost 50k miles?
My buddy recommended that I get a boost controller and keep the 12:1 FPR. He was saying that around 8-10 pounds it will lean itself and I won't be bogging.
However I bet I will bog nasty on the launch unless I launch hard at 4000rpms
Thanks for the info guys

I gotta go ask him. I am not an expert at this car stuff! hehehe ;o)
It's never to late to learn right?

Hmmm i would get those injectors checked. But are you checking FP with vacuum or no vac?
Most people lower base FP with bigger injectors to maintain idle. Stock you FP should sit about 38psi with vac and about 50-55psi with no vac.
I am just waiting for my 310cc and i am planning on lowering the FP a bit (mine is at 38psi with vac with stock injectors.
I assume your FMU is a vortech in which you can order a 8:1 kit for cheap and just replace the 12:1 disk.
I plan on trying 10-12psi on race gas with an 8:1 with 310cc. I will find the limits in about a week when my injectors come in. the rest of my setup is below.
But bogging is usaully timing or fuel related issues.

Your boggin probably cause you're just flat out dumping too much fuel in. That fmu is designed for the stock injectors not the 310's. yea change the disc that should help out.
