question about BOV's searched!!
oh kay let me ask you guys some questions...
would a bov sound different if you put a different turbo on your car??
because i had a turbonetics t3t4 turbo, on a b16a, with a xs power (i know ebay) bov, and at full boost 10psi the BOV would make a beautiful whipping sound (sick!). BUT now that i've upgraded to a b18c1 with a garrett gt28rs turbo, i only get a "psew" sound at 10 psi or less...
my vacumme sourse for the bov is going directly to my skunk 2 intake manifold (the nipple in the front middle).
so im not sure if its normal, given the fact that the gt28rs is a lil smaller then the turbonetics t3t4...
because let me explain my whole situation...
i first started out with a b16a with type r intake manifold, with a drag manifold with turbonetics t3t4 turbo---- BOV would make a whipping sound NICE!! (bov Tee'd off from the FPR)
then i got over the b16 so i put a b18c1 with a skunk 2 Intake Manifold in my car...still with the turbonetics turbo---dont know if i still had the whipping sound? (bov vacumme source straight to the skunk 2 IM)
now i got b18c1, skunk 2 intake manifold, drag manifold, with GT28RS, and still with the XS BOV (going straight to the skunk 2 IM. --- NO whipping sound from blow off valve!!!
so if n e body has n e input on this lmk- JUSTIN
im just wondering if this is normal??
i kinda missed that whipping sound....

That "beautiful whipping sound" is what you don't want because it was beating the **** out of your turbo. If it's gone then be glad.
To answer your question, yes they'll change sound with a different compressor.

Yup, smaller turbos accelerate but also decelerate faster, so the BOV's tone will be shorter and more of a traditional short woosh.
BOV's sound different on different turbos, engines, and at different boost.

Re: (boostede46)
There are, of course, louder blow off valves. The RFL is one of them. It's a little ricey since it's nothing more than a mobile announcement that "hey, I have a turbo...aren't you impressed?" Either way though, to each his own.
By the way, the beautiful whipping sound was likely compressor surge. That's when pressure isn't leaving the system quickly enough upon you letting off the gas pedal. The trapped pressure has no way to escape so it goes backwards through your compressor....not a good thing.
