PWR Air to water ICs make POWER !!!!
A guy i know has a 9.30 sec racecar, and made 70ft lbs of torque switching from a cheesy spearco core to a beautiful PWR cylinderl/ barrel air to water IC!! sick.

Re: PWR Air to water ICs make POWER !!!! (Arturbo)
Thats what im running on my car next time it comes out...The reason I like the design is because I feel it holds the air in for less of a time which in turn has less of a pressure drop and doesnt let the air overly cold like some of the spearco stuff does. When Myles B switched from air/air to water to air he told me it only gained like 8hp. To me thats not worth the extra weight and hassle of the ice+water. I think on Leevons car he actually made more power when the water started to warm up and the ice was melted. I think it has a lot to do with the setup/motor/tuning.....etc.

Re: PWR Air to water ICs make POWER !!!! (Arturbo)
that is a water to air IC?? it just looks like a non intercooled fi miata
who's engine bay is that i dont recall seeing that miata b4?
if you run a water to air IC you cant boost for long periods of time, the water heats up and just holds the heat.
I am a huge fan of water to air ic's even though it doesnt sound like it. It keeps the sleeper aspect and keeps everything looking clean.
just so there is no confusion the water to air pictured is not the same guy that did the 9 sec 1/4 mile geoff was talking about. lowest miata 1/4 i know was 10's
but there was a 13b power one that did 9.73 and that aint no rotary pictured there hehe.
sorry miata's became my thing after my GSR-T got totalled

its my fathers, and its kinda same design as pwr, my father designed it and built it, it has water cooler (modified oil cooler) in back, and water is stored in trunk via a igloo!! if i have time later i can describe it little more, we are still testing it, though seems to work great!! thanks, eric

Re: PWR Air to water ICs make POWER !!!! (shamoo)
I like my water/air setup... I've got a nice big heat exchange for the water out fron, for cruizing around town, and the system holds about 2.5-3 gallons. Boost piping after the intercooler never got heated up much, even after driving around town for hours at a time.
I like the sleeper look too

Re: PWR Air to water ICs make POWER !!!! (SiR Kid)
I was talking to Vince at GE jsut yesterday about his. He has made the switch and has only 1/2 psi pressure drop and has picked up some major (i could have swore he said 141) horsepower over his old set up. Im in for it and the best thing is they are cheap as hell. Now where to sell a giant Spearco.

Re: PWR Air to water ICs make POWER !!!! (boosted3g)
So are these are effective for runs other than 1/4 mile? Can someone go a little more in depth with me- it seems like an air to air has a much larger temp differential (between the ambient air temp and the charged air temp) than an air to water (and the water is around 200F or so) setup. Are the air to water ICs that much more efficient? I thought the air/airs were 80%+ efficient at speed, how much more helpful could an air/water be if you aren't running ice?
Thanks
Ben

Re: PWR Air to water ICs make POWER !!!! (Bnjmn)
What is this PWR air/ water cylinder cooling system?? How would this be more light weight than a regluar setup....a tank still needs to contain water and an external waterpump would still be needed to pump the fluids through????

Re: PWR Air to water ICs make POWER !!!! (Bnjmn)
The reason why an efficient Air/h20 cooler is better than an efficient air/air is because water dissipates heat much faster than air. Think about heating a bolt up with a torch until its red-hot and letting it cool holding it with a pair of pliers for one minute and then touch it. Do the same thing but hold it in a bucket of room temp h20... it cools ALOT faster in the water. So one would assume an air/h20 would cool more air faster with a smaller sized cooler.

Ok we need to clear up a few things. These PWR Air to Water IC's, are they good for daily driving? Will they still be more effecient in day to day traffic than a traditional A/A IC? What esle is needed to get it up and runing aside from what's listed at the site? How much in US currency?

Re: PWR Air to water ICs make POWER !!!! (VTC_slow_CiViC)
When my car's not runnign into OTHER issues, my water/air is great.
Actually never had ANY problems with the water/air intercooler, just with everythign else, it seems!

Hmm.. why wouldnt one just purchase an Aftercooler kit from Vortech? May as well make it easy... the Progress car still runs the SI aftercooler as far as I can remember and its supporting around 500hp with AIT's still fairly low.

I'm going to PWR today. I'll find out the availability and pricing of the barrel intercoolers. We have one to try on our race car as soon as it gets out of paint. We can't wait!
