Pulled motor, yanked pistons, check out what I found
I know, I know. These type of pics have been seen before. But here's my contribution.
Stock B16A2 in an EM1
.5 Bar on a 57 trim
4th gear highway pull for about 10-15 seconds did this.
Importbuilders.com here I come. Enjoy

you think they are aight.
I have had 230+ compression already and no signs of leakdown or compression loss and pulled pistons to have the rng lands actually break in my hands.
you find out alot more when you ripp them apart

At least you pulled the pistons while the block is still usable...
Time for a rebuild!
Were you tuned? You wouldn't think that would happen on only .5bar unless you are untuned... what were you doing for 15sec in 4th gear anyways? Don't you know that's baaaad?

I don't think 4th gear pulls are necessarly bad...it's just that you are in boost for a hell of a lot more time and your EGTs will slowly go way up and since the ringlands are pretty weak on honda engines....boom.
everytime I see pics or hear of blown engine it's usually a 4th or 5th gear pull that is the culprit..... . Personally I never boost in fourth or fith unless is a quarter mile run, just too much risk....anyone agree?

Not denying that. But like I said, I needed an excuse to rebuild that motor and now I have it.
All that happened on a pretty crappy ueberdata map. Trial and error at it's best/worst.

i used to do 4th gear and 5th gear pulls all the time with my stock b16.. never blew though. oh yeah i was untuned using a 12:1 FMU and 255lph intank pump @ 7psi.
are you sure the vacuum hose to your wastegate didnt melt or something?

Wow that is bad! I ran 15 PSI on a stock GSR motor for about a week before one little 1 inch section cracked and blew oil all out the block breather. Get 'er rebuilt and tuned!

No, I think that if the car is tuned properly for the setup that is has, you should be able to do 4th and 5th gear pulls all day long.

Ive just done a track day with straights that you can get upto about 130+ on and had no problems. I took it steady and was only running 0.6 on arias pistons, steel rods but how safe is that? my a/f is between 11.3 and 11.8 so its pretty safe.

Hows the vaccum at idle?</TD></TR></TABLE>
Yeah. Do a compression test. When I did it my #1 had 140 psi, #'s 2 and 3 wouldn't hold anything at all but would blip up to 15 or so on the compressioin stroke, and my #4 had a whopping 40 psi.
I was also shooting oil all out of my valve cover breather like nfn15037 was saying.
Oh yeah, and your entire engine bay will be a hell of a lot hotter that it usually would be after driving. I'm guessing that's from the heat from the combustion blowing by the rings and down into the crank case? I don't know. All I know is that it "felt" all wrong.

Thank You. My motor just went from 21hg/in vaccum at idle then went to 15.
No leaks or anything and the engine runs smoothly but with a lesser engine response

Could be I guess. My vacuum was off by about 8", running about 13-14. The car was harder to start up as well because there was no compression on cylinders 2 and 3. Also the car made a very distinct "blup blup blup" sound when you stood behind the car and listened to the exhaust. Run your finger along the inside of the tail pipe. I had an oiuly residue in mine. Which could have come from the blown turbo seal I guess too.
Anyway, do a compression test and see what you get. It's the easiest way to start.

4t and 5th gear pulls scare me . Thank god sfp tuned me rich. I was doing a 4th gear pull and the cel came on for high voltage on primary o2 sensor. I just ran really rich when it got hot. thanks frank for savin my @$$
