Pros and Cons of test pipe?

Ive been hearing things both good and bad about running a test pipe. Is it worth the hp gains? Where is the best place to get one made? Also, I live in Cali so what kind of fines am I looking at if I get caught without a cat? pics welcome

thanx

Pros: Small Power Gains over Cat, unless you are running high boost and then it's even larger gains

Cons: Smells
Big fat TICKET depending on where you live, IE Cali = $5000 ticket I believe.
Polluting the environment.

Pro - More Power

Cons - OBD2 = Check engine light, fail smog tests

thanx guys, I think I will deal with the loss in hp to avoid the fines and odor. Atleast I could always tell my girl it wasn't me stinkin! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

If the check light and failing smog were the only cons then I would go for it. Im interested in how bad the fine would be.

Test Pipe helps a lot. it dont smell on my car either... get one that bolts up so you can put you stock cat on when you get your smog test (i live in VA w/o smog tests https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif )

Re: Pros and Cons of test pipe? (greddyturboGSR)

I just got a testpipe. Reason being is that I would still fail emissions, so why not get a little bit more power out of it all? That's what I did, but it will still smell like gas regardless if you have a cat or a test pipe.

I dont know how strict the laws are where you are at, but in TX all you have to do is take it to a shop and pay them off w/ some $$ for your emissions sticker.
