Default proper tuning of tial bov..

cant find this anywhere for some reason... im running a d16z6 platform, planning on pushing 300+whp

going to be tuned end of next week after i get my new oil return setup, my old setup wasnt making me comfortable and or happy. lol

question about my tial bov spring pressure though, i have a 4lb spring in my wg and i plan on boost controlling it up to about 18 lbs at the track, what spring should i use in the bov though? currently i have an 11lb spring in the bov, but im scared it wont blow off on the 4lbs im going to be using when im dding around.

thx guys

I assume you're using the run of the mill 50mm Tial BOV. To "tune" your BOV, you simply look at your vacuum reading at idle once fully warmed. Then you pick the appropriate spring that correlates with the vac reading.

Spring Pressures from TIAL's website:

*Engine Vac between -22 & -23 in/Hg --------- Pink spring
*Engine Vac between -18 & -21 in/Hg --------- Unpainted spring
*Engine Vac between -14 & -17 in/Hg --------- White spring
*Engine Vac between -10 & -13 in/Hg --------- Black spring

Here's the direct link.....http://www.tialmedia.com/docum...p.pdf

Hope this helps.

i'm willing to bet you will still have compressor surge with the 11 psi spring. Tial has that chart out there for ALL engines. Many cars are different and that chart means nothing. There are a few guys on here that had compressor surge with both the 11 and 9 psi spring; including me. I have the 7 psi spring in my tial now and it works perfect and holds 16 psi just fine. I had comp surge with the 11 and 9 psi spring.

hm i think i have the 11 pound spring. Ive never heard the BOV on the dyno really, are they supposed to be really loud at 35 psi? I know it sounds like surge when it lets off at around 10-13 psi.

it might be surging then....i'm no expert at all i'm just going off of what i've seen/heard and personal experience. I'm boosting 16 psi now and when i had the 11 psi spring i was surging like crazy. Vacuum source was very good with a big line going to it. Put in a smaller spring and it works perfect now. Every setup is different. Tial ftw tho

thats why i was asking if they are pretty loud when they open properly? I hardly ever hear mine. Its hot a -4 line from the manifold to it dedicated port.

im kinda in the same predicement as the op. i wasnt sure what vac i would pull when i ordered the bov ( i got the new tial q) so i just got the "standard 11lb spring" but ive just gotten started playing with the engine management and acording to the map parameter on the digital dash of the ems it says my vac at idle is around 6-8 in/hg. does that sound a little low? i know the cams i have will make it lower than stock (skunk2 pro 1's on a built 2.0l gsr block and pnp head) but that seems really low to me and i dont see a spring on tial's list that matched a vac that low. so do i just go with the black spring or do i need to look at my map sensor's settings?

sounds low I too and running a gsr head with skunk2 pro 1's, ported head, 9.5:1 gsr block and i pull -17-18 inches

I think you are confusing in/hg with psi. make sure you aren't seeing psi of vac

this is the conversion table:
psi or lb/in2 to in. Hg 2.036
ex: 10psiX2.036: 20.36in.hg
