Is this possible: K20 swap in EH2, "V-Mount" Intercooler???
Is this possible? I did a little photoshop here, a k20 turbo swap on a eh and i took a intercooler and swapped it there by the engine block. Just want to know if anyone has done this before. Correct me if I'm wrong, I thought Top Fuel did this to their DC5. Any comments is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I like my cars to have that sleeper look and this would be the prefect setup.

The whole point of an air to air intercooler is air flow through the intercooler. So unless you put a big subaru style hood scoop to funnel air in its not going to work very well.
You're probably better off painting the intercooler flat black or using a SMIC and hiding it in the fender.

Well, of course, there's going to be an air vent/scoop of some sort. I'm not too worried about the hood, just want to know if the setup is possible or has been done already.

Anything is possible - give it a try. Subaru does it on all their turbo cars with great success - so try doing something like that.
But i still think a flat black or SMIC is more stealthy then a big hood scoop.

Man U FTW
you could use a water to air intercooler instead of an air to air...that would allow you to mount the IC just like in your picture, but you wouldn't have to worry about air flow

air vents would work just fine...something like the evo 8 hood...

Correct me if I'm wrong, don't you have to keep adding cold water or ice every so often for a water to air intercooler?

not a great idea
it will heatsoak, just like every other car with a topmount. Even with a scoop.
ive had 2 cars with topmounts and both heatsoaked after a few hard pulls and it was a NOTICEABLE loss in power.

what do you mean? in what cars? top mount bad? like liam821 said: "Subaru does it on all their turbo cars with great success." My brother has a WRX running low 12s in the 1/4 and does LOTS of auto crossing, and his car doesn't heatsoak?

What do you mean what do i mean? ask the guys in the awd thread wrxs and especially sti's both suffer from heatsoak. It may not be severe in every case but its there.
If you were to dyno your brothers car before and immediately after an autocross id bet the difference would be significant. Unless hes spraying something in it.
Im just saying i wouldnt do it. from my experience. Especially on a turbo honda. A painted black front mount and no cutting of the bumper grill is just as sleeper.

well, it's hard to say, as there isnt a dyno at the track, but we never noticed anything like that....
BUT...for this setup, it's not a top mount, like subarus, it's more of a v-mount/side mount intercooler, so heat soak shouldn't be as a problem and you can always custom a heat shield by the intercooler.

A topmount sits right above the engine, With the intercooler on the side it would be possible to get proper ducting to prevent less heat soaking!
And to be technical every intercooler heat soaks!

Your going to kind of lose the sleeper effect if you have to add vents and ducts to your hood or headlamp to cool the intercooler. Might as well just put it where everyone else does that is proven to work. No use in risking a expensive boosted k-series setup to some higher than normal air intake temps.

never tried it with a k20 but have tried it with a LS for a few months in the winter cuz me and my friends werent able to get a front mount in time. In the winter it works great. Summer not so sure. But i mean if u can fit it under the hood then it will work.

im well aware of that. i still consider intercooler on the side, next to the motor, to be a topmount. Its still subjected to alot of heat from a turbo motor. when i think sidemount i think dsm in the fenderwall.
ive had a car with intercooler on the side and it heat soaked terribly. it had a hoodscoop too.
