Port and Polish GSR Head
I have been searching for DIY threads on how to port and polish a GSR head. Any help on how to do this?

Just leave it alone. Stock head will flow plenty. If this is an average build and not a REAL quest for an 8 second car there is no need to touch the ports period

Unless you have some experience with porting you can actually make the head flow worse... just becauseyyou're making the port bigger doesn't mean it's better... you have to know the happy medium, as big ports are lazy ports and will actually flow less
You have to balance gross flow while keeping port velocity losses to a minimum... since you sound inexperienced in this area, I would recommend simply cleaning up the casting in the ports with a flapper wheel, knife edging the port dividers and gasket matching the ports..
if you remove too much material you can weaken the port walls or actually go through the port walls into the coolant jacket which is a huge problem... if you have a spare/bad head I think you should practice on it before you go Rambo on your main head

I'm not saying a P&P can't be done at home but it's a job I'd much rather have a machine shop perform. There are shops that specialize in P&P work because they'll flow test as they go for maximum efficiency.
Keep in mind the $ per HP gain. I'd rather run a few pounds more boost than spend a lot on P&P.

dont touch the ports. dont even "clean-up" the casting lines, not worth it. And for god sakes dont knife edge the port dividers. why does everyone think that helps. when porting you need to think of how air flows. what is the most aerodynamic shape? a tear drop, wing of an airplane, etc.

most porters knife edge the divider, i try to round off the dividers so theres no boundary layer disruption, some people don't have the eye-hand coordination lol
but i agree, it sounds like the OP has no experience with this sort of thing what so ever, dont touch the head and leave it to more experienced people
