Default poorman type r turbo set up

I basically have a poorman type r set up on my civic...my question is this. If I was to go with a turbo kit, would i be able to use the existing vafc to tune along with a chipped p28, or should I go with hondata etc?

crome isnt as bad as it may sound in this thread. it has enough safety features to keep your car safe and reliable, if tuned well by a GOOD tuner.
BTW, isnt a poor mans r a higher compression n/a engine? are you going to keep it set up that way and just run very low boost?

i acutally though that with the b16 head on the gsr block, u lower the compression down to about 9.7.

I got mine chipped by phearable.net. His name is John Vega. He did a really good job, because he tuned my car as well! It cost 75 to get ur ecu chipped. But your going to have down time because of sending it out then getting it back, so if u dont mind not being able to drive ur car for a couple days go for it. I think his name here on HT is mtber.

a b16 head on a gsr does lower the compression...likewise a gsr head on a b16 raises the compression

yup. i know he does a lot of ecu chipping and tuning in tampa area. actually im pretty sure he tuned my old setup before i bought my teg. it was a gsr w/ctr pistons, w/ b16 head and skunk2st2's. aka poor mans r. he tuned it reliably, but the motor definitely ripped.

I've tuned many cars with free or near free software like Crome and TurboEdit, they have turned out good times and not one has blown up or had any major issues. Classic HT mindset that Dollars make Horsepower.

Been running Crome for a good while in several different cars and several different setups. They all made plenty of power and idle like stock. Hell there is a 504whp stock motors H23 vtec (yes, rock stock) that is idling and driving like it's stock on 1000cc RC's and trapping 135+ in a full weight SI here tuned on Crome.

Dollars don't make horsepower, sence makes horsepower. Put the money where it needs to be, not where bandwagoners with mommies checkbook tell you.

Sence huh? Where can I find some of that? It sounds like it makes killer power.

It all really comes down to what the tuner feels comfortable working with. I can tune uberdata/crome... but I'm never 100% happy with the tune, so therefore; I do not run them on any of my customers cars. I am **** when it comes to tuning. Who cares how much power you make up top end... tuning is about driveability. And to be honest, I'm never 100% happy with driveability with crome/uberdata units. I know crome/uberdata works and can make power. But I'm not going to waste 3-4hrs dicking with an inferior unit when I know I can run Hondata/AEM/Haltech/Fast and have a superior unit tuned in 2hrs or less while being 110% happy with the driveability and tune of the car. I'm especially not a fan of having to pull over every run and reupload bin's while street tuning. It's a pain in the ***.

If you don't have a measly $400 bucks (ex s100b) to sink into an EMS then you really shouldn't be going turbo in the first place.
