Whats your timing look like? I tuned a boosted turbo d15b last week using a knock detecting device and it didn't want anymore than 16-17* total timing at 10psi. Anymore timing and I was picking up slight knock. I have noticed similar amounts of timing having to be pulled out on a few recent z6's as well.

yeap, and on a JRSC itll want less timing due to IAT's w. no pre/after cooler.

yup things will heat up. What kind of intake temps have you been noticing Tad?

what heat range plug is that? you either have too hot a plug and/or are running too much timing for your combo.

plugs are 2step colder from stock sohc plugs.
i forget the exact part number though. bcp something.
yeah i guess it must be the timing,
was hoping it wasnt though. as the more timing it gets the better it feels.

I dont really have jack squat to monitor this,
just my ear and plugs.

could really use something that could tell me iat's, egt's, af's, etc.. without clutting up my car with a million and one gauges

stock sohc plugs are 5's so you should be running 7's.

yeah pretty sure thats wut they are.
i was very thorough picking these plugs, they aren't the problem.

I guess I can just turn it back at the dizzy, which has been turned forward some sicne it was tuned way back when..

i'm kinda thinking about just getting one of those rom burners, a wideband, and egt, and tuning it myself tho.
never done it before though.

The small shiny spots on the porcelain are signs of detonation.

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1555006 try this out. They work awesome for me detecting knock. Also i cant stress enough how important a wideband is. Without that you really cant do ****.

thanks, i know my way around a camera, haha.

I'm wondering still though, if this a result of lean a/f or timing.. It's wierd, I started hearing some pinging recently nothing changed tuning wise!

Any recommendation on a CHEAP wideband and burner combo?
I've got an adjustable fpr too.. I wonder if adding fuel there would help

the plugs seem to of been reading a good fuel mixture. Just most of the soot ring has been disfigured from detonation.

I picked up a Innovate Wideband for 350shipped but you could get a PLX for cheaper. The PLX also is easier to mount and setup for keepin in a car you DD.

it could be many things causing detonation. You will need a wideband so you can at least single out that factor. Then look into timing. If you want a cheap burner go to moates.net and get their burn1. Its compact and much much easier to use then that willhem burner. If I were you though I'd spent a little extra cash and maybe shoot for an ostrich from moates instead. Tuning without some kind of real time programming device will make you want to cry.

Timing. The A/F appears to be fine(mixture shown on base ring) but, there is definately to much timing in the tune.

Could have been a bad tank of gas.
