Ok I have a 94 LS w/Drag III kit, JE Pistons 9.5-1, Nu Forms Block Guard, Eagle H-Beam Rods, Bored 20mm over, Balanced and Polished Crank, MSD 6al Ign., MSD BTM, APEXi s-afc, AEM Fuel Rail, stock injectors.. The other day I upped the boost and I heard a sound like the car backfired when I got on it... Didnt loose power just made a sound. I put it back to 8 and didnt hear it again.. Well today I put the boost back at 10 and got on it again.. This time I heard the same sound and lost power... I looked in the rear view and I saw smoke which is not unusual since the car runs rich at 8 lbs and my a/f didnt show lean at 10 when I got on it.. It was night so I couldnt quite tell the color of the smoke.. I am guessin it was black as normal.. I am scared what that cut out was and what the backfire noise was... !!!! Also I could hear ticking from my valves being adjusted, now I hear a louder tick that seems like it is coming from up higher on the engine.. Please tell me what to check for and what your opinions are on what is going on... Thank you all for your help. I also put the boost back down to 8 and it is running find and didnt lose any power..

with stock injectors you will be running lean at 10 psi. I wouldnt go anything over 8 until you get some bigger injectors.

trust me i wont.. not gonna touch the boost.. so do you think my motor is ok??

how much do they cost???

talk to a dealer you trust. it should be a couple hours labour?

But before that make sure all intercooler pipes are connected.

If the intercooler pipes where not tight, wouldnt it still run crappy at 8lbs.. It was running fine at 8lbs when i lowered the boost back down..

Yeah do a compression and leak down test..they are very cheap and easy to do, and will tell you exactly how your engine looks from the inside.

I was thinking that you might have a leak at higher boost levels and that is why the power drop off. It is more then likely you had det. from running lean and timing retard.

It is an easy thing to check but do the tests!!
