please help... erratic idle- rpms constantly goes from 1000 to 1500 updown up down
okay here it goes...i have a 1994 accord ex f22b1 vtec
Before i took everything off for smog i had turbo with hondata on 550cc injectors with a 3 bar map sensor, and with the EGR system taken out. raN GREAT!
now i put everything back to stock: stock intake, header, EGR system back in, stock fuel system with stock ECU.
now my stupid idle is jacked up.. when i first start the car, it idles above 1k rpms even though the car is fully warmed up. when i rev it then it constantly goes up and down from 1000 to 1500.
i checked all the stupid vacuum lines and they all seem to be connected.. and i hear no signs of leaks... what now?!??? this is starting to get me mad because my car was down for 3 weeks due to a stupid fuel leak.... pleaaase helpp

Check your coolant. Low coolant makes them act stupid also.

Sounds like your throttle position sensor, they are hell to find though I don't think that you can buy them from Honda without buying a whole throttle body but I could be wrong. Get a helms and see if it has any tests for the TPS and do those first. Good luck

I was working on a GSR that did the same thing.
Turned out to be the IAT (intake air temp) sensor. It somehow got burned in the coolant. ALso make sure you IACV is getting coolant to it and the lines are hooked up right.

if u have datalogger on ur hondata see check the % on ur iac valve
if its at close to 0 ur getting too much air from somewhere(vaccum leak or extra air valve)
u can also do a sweap on the tps and watch the voltage
a common problem is the cold start extra air valve
its the valve under the throttle body mounted on it has coolant lines to it
if u remove it and shake it and hear something moveing back and forward the valve is broken(the pin on the valve usaully breaks off)

Check the fuel filter. My buddies old Prelude used to do the same thing. After we changed that it went away. I would also look into the IACV as described above. Rule of thumb-When you don't know the problem always try the cheapest possibility first

Re: (accordfreak)
do the infamous IACV check. First warm up the car fully, locate the IACV harness, yank it off the IAVC, and if your car stalls, then its ok, if it drops in idle a little bit, and does not stall, then its bad.
Either replace or clean it out. Just remove it and drench the ****** out with carb cleaner. Fixed my problem. I had the exact same symptoms as you.
