Default Please help! Car isn't going into boost! =\ =\

Well the other night I decided to really get on my car for the first time. It's pretty much broken in. Anyway, 2nd gear spun to redline, so I shifted into 3rd and it spun to redline immediately again. I heard a ticking coming from under the valve cover and it ends up a nut came off of one of the retainers. Before this incident my car was running mint.

Anyway, I redjusted the valve today and just took it out for a spin. It seems to be running right, but it's not going into boost, no matter what. Is it possible for it not to go into boost if that one valve isn't adjusted correctly? My gauge goes to just below 0 but never passes it, and of course, the significant power loss is noticeable. Everything is connected correctly, like I said, the car was running mint just the other day before this happened. Any help would be VERY much appreciated.

Also, for what it's worth, my exhaust is crackling a little when revving in neutral. I revved to about 3k and it would be a little crackly. Not sure if that has to do anything. I'm not even sure if it did it before.

do a compression test. It'll rule out many things.

Also, is it misfiring when you step on the gas, or let off?

All the hoses are connected. I can't even hear the turbo spooling, but it's spinning at idle.

make sure none of your couplers have a tear.

I Just tried doing a compression test. The gauge would start going up, then drop to zero, then go up and repeat. Maybe the gauge is broken. I don't see how the couplers would just tear. I give up.

Put a Schrader valve in your compression tester. It shouldnt drop like that.

It did it in all cylinders.

Upon further inspection, I noticed the compressor wheel was NOT spinning at itle. If I pulled the throttle cable a little (can't go passed 3,000RPM because of 2 step) it would spin for a second and stop. There was something white on it. It appeared to be a piece of snow, but HOW would snow be in there. It's way too hot. Who knows. I guess the only way to find out is to take everything out and inspect it. Hopefully the turbo isn't blown. I don't see how it could be. It was working fine last time the car was running.

If I drive like this staying in vacuum, will that harm the turbo?

sounds like you popped of a charge piping or a coupler is messed up. similar thing happen to me, and i couldnt figure it out, then i jacked the car up and looked at the turbo where the charge piping connects and noticed that it wasnt connected all the way.... problem solved.

Hopefully it's something as simple as a coupler. Gonna pop my bumper off and check them out. Any other suggestions/thoughts/input?

Probably a blown off charge pipe.. a valve will not cause no boost alone... I've made over 1 bar of boost on 3 cylinders on an old eclipse with a bad lifter. heh

Would having a pressure loss in the piping cause the turbo not to spin at idle? He has my old car, and when I installed the turbo, at idle that thing spun like crazy. This leads me to believe something is seriuosly wrong with the turbo. I could be paranoid tho.

if the turbo is not spinning at all at idle....means no exhaust gases are getting to the turbine...could have a leaky exhaust manifold gasket....or a crack in the manifold itself? I' thinking that somehow the exhaust gases leaking out...

my car had vaccuum leaks everywhere.. i found it through doing a compression test from the turbo to the intake manifold..

could it be that your wastegate is stuck open? that would prevent the turbo from spinning.

That's what I was thinking. Or maybe the flapper is stuck. I was also thinking the bearing may be shot.

I dont understand how some of your turblows are not spinning at idle?

Mine is flying at idle.

Wanna see something cool?
Shine a timing light on the blades as the car runs.

I just reached into it, and pulled out a bandaid that I was wearing yesterday. No clue how the hell it got in there. I can't see that being the problem though. how would a bandaid stop it from working, or even survive in there.
