Places to buy Pre-built honda engines?

I've seen them on the jg engine dynamics website but i was wondering if anyone knows of any other places that sell pre built honda short blocks (I need D16Z6) for use with a turbo of course. Web sites would be great.

Why do you say JG sucks? I have a Redline series Head and it works GREAT!

allablur 12-10-2003 11:25 PM

Re: Places to buy Pre-built honda engines? (r1racer)

well for the most part jg does good head work but their blocks from friends experience isnt good i wont point finger but they didnt go well but if u just need head work they are ok...i would go through importbuilders over jg or send it to RS Machine have em do your machine work(send pistons for boring) and have someone with experience(alot) and have them assemble it with you...good luck

93TurboSi 12-11-2003 02:58 PM

Re: Places to buy Pre-built honda engines? (allablur)

well I have a spare short block in which the #3 rod bearing went out in. so the crank is a little scratched and the #3 cylinder wall is slightly scuffed. So I'm basically looking at a good deal to send this out and get the crank and cyl wall repaired and some forged rods and pistons thrown in maybe even get one of those inserts put in around the cylinder walls or resleeve. depending on cost.

The JG seems like a great deal fully built and resleeved for 2200 and you can get the monster 1.76L d16Z6 for 2500. But i seem to be seeing alot of people not liking JG.

h22 civic 12-11-2003 05:04 PM

i have had customers bring me their cars from jg with worst storries then this one what a shame and im in n.y poor kids where flying back and forth to get their shit back

I am not the only one. I don't have time to post all the people I know of who he has screwed. We could make another thread and I bet you would get at least 20-30 responses of "Screwage".
Read this

About halfway down 5 or so people jump in saying they were screwed.

ITRswapandslow 12-12-2003 06:01 PM

I hate posting huge pictures but this may help you see what I am talking about. THis was the 2nd engine I got from them. The first one was so bad, I immediately called back and he said send it back. He agreed to pay for shipping. I didn't have a Digi Cam at the time but wish I did. The sleeve scratches were so deep, it would have burnt oil through its whole life. It also had cracks between the sleeves.

Here are some pictures of the second one. After getting this one, they could NOT Be reached no matter how hard I tried.

Cracked Sleeve;
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...f/fa50a170.jpg

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...d/fa4f27f1.jpg

Sleeve Scratch: This is only 1 of them. All cylinders had a massive scratch(es) in them. Guess they don't know how to use their machines.
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...1/fa50a147.jpg

I also had the engine checked out by a machine shop. All tolerances were WAY out of whack. Each cylnder had a different deck height. As great as 15 thousandths!!! Another point was the engine couldn't be turned over a full 360 degrees. It would hit. Come to find out they didn't notch the block for the eagle rods. This in turn ruined 1 of the pistons. I could go on but there is no point. They are a company that got big because they DID quality work. Now they are a bunch of scammers who need to be put in Jail and A$$ raped.

You wanted experience so you got it.

We do:
1. Sleeved Blocks
2. Built blocks
3. Heads
4. Full complete block and head setups w/ timing belt and head gasket all installed.
5. Complete CRATE motors with headers, intake manifold, etc.
6. Also turbo setups to compliment the race engine you buy from us.
7. We also design to any race engine to your specs. Talk with you on the type of abuse you will put your motor through and pick the right parts for that.
8. We also work with Average racers to Race shops that want fully done motors so all they have to do is install it in their shop.

We have a customer coming out on 2004 for Sport FWD/Pro-AM that we helped design the complete setup from the ground up.
from race block to even the wiring on the engine management system.

Wil

and on top of that. We are total D-Series fans also.. well at least I am.

Re: Places to buy Pre-built honda engines? (94goldjungsr)

Ive had a good experience w/JG. Had my LS sleeved. My only complaint was that it took longer than quoted(standard in the Honda aftermarket, almost no matter what). It wouldve been ok, but the thing I didnt like was lack of comunication. If my customers want to know how their order is coming, they know where to reach me, and I know where to reach them, and as quickly as possible.
I sent my block to JG in late December, recieved in mid Feb. I was quoted 4 weeks, so it wasnt THAT bad. But I talked to Javier twice: once before I sent the $, and once when he called and asked for cylinder specs.
Would I do business with them again? Im not sure. The block was great quality though!

If you're talking about their short block special, yeah, it's a pretty good price. They can also provide sleeving for the more serious minded turbo engine, and are one of the finest places in the world to get your head ported, or cams/valvetrain for B-series VTEC. I made the reverse OBD1-OBD2 conversion harness so they could run their OBD2B EMS in a 92 DX drag shell, have talked to Brad and Howard on a couple different occaisions. Brad knows I'm a junkyard warrior, hardcore DIY, anti-aftermarket, and will never spend a thin dime with him, yet he takes time out of his day to discuss tech, engine building, and advanced combustion theory with me. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif BIG FUCKING THUMBS UP https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

I've ridden in and driven ITRswapandslow's ITR powered 98 CX, which also sports one of my conversion harnesses and almighty "P05" ECUs, before and after his RLZ cams/valvetrain was installed. Before it was an alright car, after cams/springs it had noticeable increases in power in both low and high cam. He hung dead even with a 96 FWD Eclipse @ interstate speeds when he came over last Saturday... big 16G @ 22 psig car. I was impressed, that's not too shabby for a torqueless NA Honda.
