Default Pic request: Cutting bumper support for intercooler

I know i'm going to need additional height for my intercooler for ground clearance. Just wanted to see how people are mounting their "L" brackets onto the bumper support, so I can get an idea of what i'm in for.
My intercooler is 21 x 9 x 3.

Also, there is a welded nipple on the top of the intercooler, and I have no idea what its for....?

TIA

I cut my bumper so that it can slip behind the front and hit the top of it. That is the easiest way but not that safe and you cover about 2 inch of intercooler. So i ended up cutting the part of the metal bumper that is shown through the bumper cover and welded some angle iron in to help support. Safer then stock and looks better through the buddy club.

i cut off the L bracket and made my own.

i have to ask why you are not using a bumper for that small of an intercooler, to me its not worth not having a bumper if you can get away with keeping it.

i don't think it is a good idea to cut your bumper rebar for your ic. my core is 26x12x2.5 and i never touched my rebar just for the safety issue. here is what i did instead:

Here is a 93 Civic I'm not sure if your bumper support is the same as this EG civic but the way i did it was traced the intercooler and cut it off the front of the support and then had angle iron welded in the back side of the bumper support.. and then I attached the intercooler by the in/out-let with two u clamps which i picked up at Home depot. I notched out a slot for the bracket and it worked perfect. It is study with no flexing at all. Hope it helps ya out...

weirRacing nice fab work

keep the pic's/ideas coming......good ****. weirRacing.... your idea is good for structurual support but if you actually get into an accident dosent seem like that bar will do much for you mounted so low. i know its hard to make something better though.
