Default Pic of my melted piston:(

here is a pic of my melted piston. It happened at the end of 5th gear...
But I don't get why it is the colder side(intake) that melted since it supposed to be the colder side?

Do you know where the ring end gap was on the piston for the compression ring? Who set the end gap on the rings? What kind of rings?

Looks like an SRP or Ross piston...

MAYBE a Wiseco, but not the Endyne Wiseco style.

its a JE. thats the thinest part of the piston which makes it a hot spot.

Looks like a JE piston. Detonation is an equal opportunity destroyer.

Damn, sorry to see bro.

So im guessing that this is from bad tuning?

Isn't the intake side the thrust side of the piston, ie most mechanical stress? And alluding to the other poster's question about ring gap could it be part of the problem was the black death? Kinda looks like it.

same thing happened on 3 of my pistons to my surprise when i took my motor apart last week. Well 2 of them are bad and the 3rd is a little melted.

Looks like a srp piston to me

we think it's the timing that wasn't right.
But the thing we don't understand is that it's the coldest part of the piston that melt, not the hottest... ??? BTW I have 3 melted pistons but that the worst one...They were JE forged pistons(9:1cr, 20 ever) I ordered some Endyne wiseco yesterday.
And yes it sucks...

[QUOTE=bcause]we think it's the timing that wasn't right.
[QUOTE]

if it was timing I think it would have made things more severe. something catostrophic internally. melting a piston up top in 5th spells lean A/F to me.

but that's just my $.02

ohh heres one for ya, I know what it's like to have the internals take a ****.
