Penalty for running a turbo in the Bay Area?
Hey people, I live in Fremont, CA. I was wondering what the penalty would be if a cop busted you for running a drag3 turbo on my GSR. Say if I got pulled over and the cop popped my hood, what kind of trouble would you be facing? If its just a fix-it type deal, I could remove the turbo, then install it later. I don't go racing all over the place, and I generally drive cool around town. I mostly only get on it on the freeway, and in the backroads. Also what would be the best way to conseal the turbo as much as possible? I know that fat crome intercooler could draw attension as well. Maybe getting a grill, or painting it? Thanx guys. If all goes well, I will be joining the darkside in a few months. Just trying to soak up all the info I can.

If the cop is cool he'll give you a warning, I've had that happen before. If not he'll give you a referee ticket and you'll have to take the turbo off and smog your car at the state ref. however, the chance of getting your hood popped if you're just driving around or get pulled over for something else is slim to none. they usually only do that crap if they pull you over at the races or something.

Are turbos illegal on honda's or something? You can get a ticket for it. That is retarded. I didn't even know that. I would tell the cop that **** is OEM. Whatever.

I think it depends on where you live...
I'm in Toronto, Ontario... and here, although the turbo itself isn't illegal it should still pass smog check.... and since every one runs an open intake with filter.. they fail... because regardless of what the ride smog out as.. the open filter is an automatic failure.... pretty wacked eh ?

And yet another reason that I can not stand California! Here in Georgia most counties do not even have any form of emmisions or smog check. The ones that do, allow you to do anything to your car except remove the cat. As long as you pass the emmisions, you are fine. I know plenty of turboed Hondas that pass.
