painting turbo and mani, TEMP QUESTION!
ok, well i was talking to this worker at KS Auto(performance shop around here) and he was saying that they sell HIGH TEMP paint. It can take up to 1500 degrees. I was wondering how hot does the manifold and turbo get? I DONT THINK it gets 1500 degrees hot but what about on 100degree days. anyone know what temps turbos and mani's reach? REASON BEING: My turbo and manifold have been in the garage and i guess with cold air and mabye some frost (NY) it has started to urn brown, like a rusty brown. LOOKS BAD. Since ive put $ into this project i would also like for it to look good under the hood. i wanted to paint the mani black along with the exhaust side of the tubo. cars black and the valve cover is black so itd match. ANYWAYS, what are the temps guys. THANKS

I doubt high temp paint would hold up very long, and to get it to work right you have to cure it at like 600 degrees. You can have everything jet coated or ceramic coated, "The Shodan" here on H-T does it and it looks really nice.

Re: painting turbo and mani, TEMP QUESTION! (ProjectDarkBlack)
just a suggestion
try the paint your friend said or get some engine 500+ paint at schucks and if that doesnt work just get one of those chrome flat shields like on the greddy kits

Re: (mrrugsr)
they both do the same purpose...they both insulate the header for lower underhood temperatures
do what you think looks better
some people even insulate they're charge/intake piping

Re: (exotik4doorcivic)
I didn't coat my mani, but I coated my turbo. I know a few people who have used this for up to a year with no real wear showing on it. Prep is the key. Check it out.

Also, Mac (TheShodan) does coating, he does very nice work.

ps - a search on "coating" in the f/i forum with the archived box checked will produce a lot of hits.
