overheating...intercooler blocking radiator
alrite, i've got a situation. i'm getting my turbo set-up ready and i'm running AC. i had a 8" JRC intercooler in the front and it's blocking the airflow to my radiator. i have holes in my bumper n it still doesn't help. the car is running NA right now with a koyo alum. half-sized radiator and a GE sleeved gsr block. after driving for about 15 min with my ac on, the needle would start to creep up about 3/4 way. even on a hot day i was driving with the AC off, it still started to overheat. so i took the intercooler off, and been driving around for hrs with the AC on, and the car would be at normal temp with the AC freezing cold. i was wondering how do you guys with the LARGE/HUGE intercoolers manage to drive around on blazing hot summer days and not overheat. how do you guys not overheat at all? i have my hood cowled too. i've got a puller fan for the radiator. any ideas, opinions, or suggestions would help.

leakdown test to see maybe your headlifting...do you have head studs, is your coolant system bleed... are fan turning on it might just be something really simple....
ac with halfcore radiator... that might be your problem...you dont have the extra fan as you would with a stock integra full core to cool off the coolant flow |

your driving around with an interfooler, i suggest you putt a flame suite on. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmileo.gif Got any pics of the fan? |
Re: overheating...intercooler blocking radiator (GTEC913)
the systems bled, i got arp headstuds, and the fans are turning on.
and yes, i was driving around with just the intercooler on because i wanted to save time and have it mounted so i wouldn't have to do everything at once. there's nothing wrong with that. at least i found out that there was a problem before i went ahead and installed the whole turbo kit. anyways, its painted black so you can't even tell that its there. no pics of the fan, its one of those 12" fans from b18bturbo |
Re: overheating...intercooler blocking radiator (boostedsc61)
i have the precision 750hp intercooler and i dont have problems with overheating on a delsol stock half size dual core radiator.

Re: overheating...intercooler blocking radiator (komat)
84mm lsvtec precision 600hp, no problems here. Have you done a leakdown and/or comp test to see if the headgasket is blown?

Re: overheating...intercooler blocking radiator (FactionR)
damn, i can't use the stock ones because the fan shrouds would probably hit the turbo
|
Re: overheating...intercooler blocking radiator (boostedsc61)
see if you can trim down the shroud on the stock fan.

Re: overheating...intercooler blocking radiator (95GSRTT)
I believe I'm having a problem similar to yours also. I'm going to try a manual fan switch (easiest), and if I don't get anywhere with that, make a shroud that closes off the area where the ac condenser used to be in order to force all the air through the radiator (still after the intercooler though). High pressure rad. cap is also a good idea I suppose. This only happens to me on really hot days, not to mention the fact I'm running on a guessmap. Good luck

Re: overheating...intercooler blocking radiator (eastbay92cx)
yeah make a shroud so the fan CANNOT pull air from the engine bay where your DP is..
i found the fan will suck air from near the exhaust manifold and just recirculate it... because the restriction is less then pulling through the fmic,. |
Re: overheating...intercooler blocking radiator (shortyz21)
hmm that idea makes sense, ima try one of the FAL fans that have a shroud..
|
Re: overheating...intercooler blocking radiator (boostedsc61)
for those guys with the big intercoolers and not having the same problems as me, what's your cooling system like? what kind of fans? radiators? are you using water wetter? or what else? just curious.
|
I've had a few setups where, all using big ass intercoolers and a dual core 1/2 radiator. I used a 10" slimline fan on both, and never have had an overheating problem.
I would say make sure your cooling system is still in tip top shape. |
Re: overheating...intercooler blocking radiator (boostedsc61)
make sure u block off the engine bay from the front of the rad also.
fal fans are big. make sure u got the clearance for it.. |
