Our Custom Manifold (www.homemadeturbo.com)
Well, we are doing up our first custom manifold. We started off doing custom turbokits with HF/STD manifolds, and now moving to custom fabrication. This is just a test manifold for my Ls/Vtec. We just got a new tig welder, and still learning to use it, but things seem to be working out pretty well. Maybe a bit more work on
the collector
I mean, its no "FULL RACE" manifold or anything, but I thought we are doing pretty good for our first shot at this. Maybe in the near future after we get a few done we might start selling them, (pay off the welder...)
My god damn battiers in my digital camara died after we finished it, so I will post some more later..

Re: Our Custom Manifold (Hondaddict)
FLEXPLATE? Is this an automatic setup?... or is that just how your jdm motor came?
that is just a mocked up engine, so we can do stuff.. I think its a B18a and I think the head is a b16a. Just extra crap laying around.
The Tig is a small hobart tigmate, nothing fancy. But it works
"Sweet, Jeff...just like your avatar"
Oh Sonny, you are the only one who really knows how sweet "Shaniqua" really is right?
Dont be fighting over her..... either

Re: Our Custom Manifold (project dc2)
Might want to add a little more material on the weld on that left front runner.
And what, no external WG?

Re: Our Custom Manifold (AbaZ)
looks like you have a little bit of bracing tacked onto the dip stick tube thingy... you gonna put any more on there?
also if those are a reasonable price id probably take one from ya...
and im assuming no on the external wastegate huh?
also were you putting any effort into getting the runners the same length?

Re: Our Custom Manifold (Overblown-Teg)
thanks for the jab, thats really cool.
he is making himself one, and didnt put them up for sale for a low price. If you decide to sell them yeah i have an issue with that, becuase it is our design, that is the wrong thing to do and anyone should be able to recognize that.
There are so many other possible designs to come up with, that using one of ours, just means you are being lazy and taking the easy way out.
Its funny that if many of us were ever to meet, im sure the majority of things said on the interenet would never be said face to face.

Re: Our Custom Manifold (FFgeoff)
imitation in the import world is like eating in real life. that's what has made it a booming industry.
ffgeoff, love your manifolds. i hope to have yours or hytech's one day.
but yours looks awfully similar to my current kooks manifold which has been out substantially longer.
kudos to the guy above for the effort.

Re: Our Custom Manifold (bgod)
kooks doesnt cut their own collectors, kooks uses completley different collectors, kooks doesnt put their wastegate where we do, kooks doesnt angle the flange, kooks doesnt use 1/2" flanges and kooks doesnt use thick material, not trying to be a pain on the *** but there are other designs out there to come up with
or even one that puts the turbo over to the side...
edit: one more thing is that the kooks hangs the turbo too low, and the oil return lines are really crappy. ours doesnt do that

Re: Our Custom Manifold (FFgeoff)
Geoff I am not trying to be a pain either.. The manifold I put up was not something that I am "mass producing" or anything. A local person wanted a manifold made and didn't have the money for one of yours. I have seen plenty of designs that are very similar to yours. I have also worked with the thick els before and I like them. Your manifolds are great and no one denies it.. Heck, in your playing around I think you have made just about every possible combination of tubes and mounting location. No mater what I make its going to look similar to one of yours.. Man probably one I have never even seen. There is no need for all the harsh words on hear. I agree with you that if we or many of the people on here were to meet in person it would be a different story. Can't we all just get along?

Re: Our Custom Manifold (Overblown-Teg)
well i finnally figured out what you 2 are talking about and your personall differences aside i think theres just so many ways that you can arrange pipes to make a manifold like this.. it just so happens that its using the same collector design and pipe arrangements as geoffs, hehe. its obvious though that geoffs manifold is pretty sweet and well worth the money but props to anyone that wants to make there own. just as long as you dont market it in competition with geoffs (ie start takin orders for them over the internet when there exactly the same as his)

Re: Our Custom Manifold (JCushing)
Since when was welding a few tubes together a patented process? If the design works, then use it. If someone has access to the equipment and can weld, then by all means do your own magic.
For the rest of us that can't weld, or don't have the proper equipment, we have to pay the price... $$$
Anyways, on the DIY manifold...and for geoff and his magic welding hands.

Re: Our Custom Manifold (b18bturbo)
Geoff...Obviously you haven't taken any business classes. Especially economics. You do have a right to be mad that your amazing manifold is being copied. In order to stay on top you have to innovate and keep the upper hand, not by bashing others attempts to copy you, but instead in insisting on the quality of you manifold over your competitor/copier. IMO your manifold looks a lot cleaner and the welds are a lot better looking( you have been doing this for a while) You are the originator, if someone copies you thats how business goes, you gotta just suck it up and deal with it. Just like headers for regular NA cars, I have no clue who made the first one, but they all look the damn same to me. So the big companies such as DC sports had to innovate and make the 4-1 header to keep business. Still to this day DC Sports. Mugen, Comptech and others still sell headers that are nearly identical to the cheap copies, yet people still buy DC, Mugen, Comptech because of the uncomprimised quality they use when producing their products. Keep up the good work and you have nothing to worry about, innovate your existing product and you def. will have nothing to worry about. I dont mean to offend I am just letting you know how **** goes. It seems pretty low to get copied by someone, but in the business world it happens day in and day out...sorry It seems like your day may be coming sooner than you hoped. I dont know about others but even if this guy starts making manifolds like yours for a fraction of the cost. My money still goes to you because you get what you pay for.

haha looks like the one that I made. (personal use only too, I'm not selling this one) I'm using standard material. damn stainless is too hard to cut. The last pic is my copy of a max-rev. A replacement for my friend.

Geoff, just remember that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. So be flattered. We have our flow numbers to know your design is working.
