Other Considerations when punching out to 2.0L
Besides actually boring the block.... what else has to be considered?
Like.. What has to be done to the head to work with the larger bores?
And the head gasket???

I think they make a headgasket now but you have to get the chambers opened up and machined on the head to make it mate with the bigger bores.
Thinking about doing this?

Yeah I am getting spoiled from the torque on my 5.7L car. So I need to punch the GSR out to 2.0L.

Re: Other Considerations when punching out to 2.0L (MarkC)
I'm building the same block right now. My experience with building other B20/VTEC's has taught me a few things. I have put them together with a stock head, but they are very finicky. Because the bore size of the head sits in the actual compression area, the edges of the combustion chamber turn into hot spots, ultimately causing detonation and a motor that only runs really well when it's cool. Machining them to fit will eliminate this problem. Endyn sells a head gasket for larger bore B18c blocks made by Cometic, but you might be able to go direct to get them (it's a tri metal layer gasket, just like OEM). Other than that, there's nothing to worry about, and really there's no reason to not go to a larger bore if you are resleeving. My project should be finished in about 1 months time, so if you really wanted to, you could wait til I finish.

mine's to be turbocharged. I'm currently saving my money so that I can pay for the block. It's already done, but I had some things come up that prohibited me from paying for it.

Is it more economical to bore/stroke the engine to 2.0 or to just buy a B20 block? The factory block sure seems like it would be more likely to hold up.

it may be more economical, however there are some desirable properties of the B18c block, such as the piston oil squirters, factory crank girdle, better crank, and a much nicer rod/stroke ratio. Sure, you could do all those things to the B20 block, but it would ultimately cost you as much to do that as it would to sleeve a B18c block - and the sleeved b18c would be stronger. This was my reasoning - and I already had a GSR block with blown sleeves.

I was wondering these same things actually...
About how big can the block be bored anyway (assuming that resleeving is done and all that jazz)? Maybe I'll do it to 2.1L just to beat you!
HAHAHAHHA...really though = real question..but still... HAHAHA

Re: Other Considerations when punching out to 2.0L (archmage)
you could punch it out another 1mm to bring it to 85mm if you wish. That's about the max you'd want to go on bore size for a f/i motor. Otherwise the sleeves may be too thin.
Can anyone tell I put a lot of time, money, research and thought into this?
