Default OT: Not Honda Related. Just a general Turbo Question. Look at this picture.

How well will this work. For some reason, I thought it wouldn't.

This is a v8 firebird.

I've seen that before... A lot of F bodies run that because of lack of under hood engine space... With a v-8, there isn't room to run 2 nice big t66s or something crazy like that, so that's the setup they run.

Works pretty well - i have some more info and videos of cameros and firebirds running that setup... let me dig em up

I guess LT1s and LS1s have a whole let less underhood space than in hondas

um actually no... they spool up surprizingly fast. The turbo is still relatively small for how much displacement those beasts put out.

its alll the way in the BACK... i mean exhaust flow is exhaust flow, but i would say some responsiveness maybe lost..

the exhaust pulse wave may get weaker by that point but it will still work...

i would just worry about hitting a speedbump...

but yet us hondas are lower than these muscle car

thats interesting....how do they set up the oil return with the turbo below the and about 8' back from the engine? Do they have some sore of inline pump pushing the oil back to the engine?

Yeah I remember seeing this a couple months ago, the oil feed and return would definitely bother me. I would also think the turbo wouldnt be as efficient being so far away from the exhaust ports on the heads.

if you look close to the rear axle there's a remote oil filter, and a pressure switch or something, it looks like the return line goes to that, looks like the same tube....

maybe a small pump, i have heard you can use small pumps on return lines

Thats not a remote oil filer its a pump that feeds the turbo with oil then returns it to the oil pan.

like 3000 $ in piping ! and 1500 for the turbo setup!

anyway, it's not the first car I seen running that way, I'd cut something under the hood if not the hood like some grand national people do to fit the blower before putting 20 foot of pipe crossing everywhere under my car !

You could probably cook a meal in the trunk unless they have it insulated with something..looks like the turbine housing is right up against there..and I think they removed the fuel tank...if not...then I dont know what to say...but interesting setup all the way

Although there is a ton of piping, I'm guessing with 8 cylinders, there's definitely enough exhaust flow to spool up that "small" turbo.

But one question, where's the intercooler?

Everyone can say what they want, but that is the first domestic I have ever seen that I actually got excited over.

The oiling system looks complicated.

"Do you really want this under your gas tank?"

I bet is easy to pass emmisions with the turbo downstream from the catalytic converter. One plus to go along with all the minuses.

How did I know that someone was going to argue with me.
FACT: if you have 9 feet of flippin charge pipe, it will take longer for the charged air to reach its destination. I dont care how small the turbo is.

I think it would work much better if the piping to the turbine was wrapped. That pipe surely loses a lot of heat.

lol, they don't run cats or mufflers... just a straight downpipe Which is why im a little confused about why they don't just shove the turbo where the cat is?

Leave it to the Domestic guys to put a turbo in the *** of the car. LOL!

BTW, the "Do you want this under your hood?" caption was hilarious! Yea, let's move it out from under the hood and PUT IT NEXT TO THE GASTANK! LMAO! What's next?...running stock injectors?
