OT:but most of the hardcore racers are in here...roll cage?
Do you guys think it's worth the extra couple hundred bucks to get a chromoly steel roll cage, or save that couple hundred and get a mild steel cage(settle with the weight)and spend the money else where?
This is not an all out drag car "YET" I wanna see what I can do in street trim first(full interior, full exhaust) first, then if I can get a good time with that setup, I'll gut the ****** and chop off the frontend ...

Until you are committed to stripping the interior, what's the use of messing it half way with a cage? Try holding a piece of chromoly and the same size piece of mild steel. You'll be shocked as to how much heavier the mild steel is. The weight of a mild steel cage will slow u down unless you're into rice. You'll also be shocked as to how expensive the good stuff is.

Cromoly and mild steel weight the same exact amount if they are the same identical peice. What makes a cromoly cage lighter is because the NHRA allows a thinner wall on thr cromoly cages. It is about 25% lighter because of the lesser material. Keep in mind that you need to tig weld a cromoly cage where you can mig a mild steel one. Tig welders are not cheap and they are hard to come by if you are doing it yourself. Also why not look into a 6 point bar instead of a cage. They are good down to 10.00.

yeah, I meant roll Bar, ****, I keep on calling it a cage...The thing is, I'm gonna try to get into the 10's with a full interior first...you'll need a bar after running 11's or faster....

Paul, go with the Chromo. It will be about 30% lighter than if you were to go with mild steel.

Well at the track here if you run 12's I beleive then you are required to have a rollcage to compete or anything in "real" competitions, not like the amateur meets that they have though.

sup man..ill go with the chromoly for sure.. my friend has a 10 point chromoly roll cage on his car.. our drag car is up for sale.. the motor is a 1.6 stroked close to a 1.97 the motor is ran off a speedpro XS custom turbo and a fully built motor sleaved and all.. the motor put out 600+ hp @ 26psi.. the car has never been ran becuz funds are not there..
the car is a CRX full MB fiberglass front end, doors, sunroof, hatch, the rear corner glass has been cut out soo its all fiberglass back there. the gas tank has been removed the gas door has been shaved a MUGEN sides has been molded to the whole car, but cut in certain areas soo the front end will come off.. the MB stablelizer bar has been installed Custom RACE SET ground controls and specail struts are on the car.. alum dash with DEFI gauges
The car has been painted "Real" Candy apple red inside and out the roll cage is painted candy blue.. im sure u heard of elite?? they have seen the car and they are drooling.. they might come up with a offer any day now.

i'd go with the chromoly. its not that much extra and if you end up going all out, you won't have to worry about a lighter cage. do it right the 1st time. i got a 6 pt chromoly cage w/ rear strut tower staballizer incorporated into the cage for $700 installed.

for you....$800 or less. no more. takes about a week. will qualify for any track in america for 11.00 or slower. 8 point is like $1000 and will give you 10.00 or slower.
let me know if your interested. don't wait too long.

Magnum Superchargers in Oak Grove, MN....Custom Built for my CRX. They were asking 550 for mild steel...PLus, he said that the welding is the most part that they concentrate on(which most others just do a quick job). He should know, it was his friend that Died at Rock Falls(his welds on the cage ripped and the cage tore apart). He told me that if his friend would've let them(magnum)do it instead of doing it himslef, he would've lived.
But anyways, it's just a 6point bar. It will confine with NHRA specs. I'm not sure how much the chromoly is though

I wish I would have gotten chrom moly. Im in the process of putting the mild steel. The only reason I got this because me and a friend got kicked out of the track and would like to run there again because it's the only one that is open over the winter.
Don't do an impulse buy (like what I did), you will like the chrom moly one in the future. Also make sure you get and experienced welder to do your bars, cage or you will be regreting it.
Do it right the first time!!!
