Optimal cam overlap? B18 with ITR cams and a big turbo
Now im fairly sure that most setups will have a true optimum cam timing setup, but i was wondering if there are general rules of thumb to get it "close" before fine tuning the overlap?
I have a sleeved B18 with low comp pistons, an S372R and and stock port head with ITR cams.
Now am i right in thinking that the intake port needs to be retarded and the exhaust advanced? would something like 3 or 4 degrees be a good starting point?
I would be interested to hear from anyone with a "similar" setup that may have done this already.
Thanks!

Your best off leaving this to your tuner. You need a degree wheel and dial indicator to set cam timing properly. I'd just leave them at 0,0 and let the dyno tell you what it wants. Every engine/setup is different

I appreciate what your trying to do but its kind of like me saying "you should start with x amount of ignition timing". There's just soooo many variables that need to be considered. Like i say i think you should just start at 0,0 and see how it responds. Then adjust to suit the powerband. Good luck please update with results

will do, ill be on the dyno myself anyway, so should be able to feel the effects. It will be the first time the engines been fully tuned, so is quite exciting.
