Opinions needed: D-series turbo-Exhaust muffler options
hey guys about to build a new top mount and full exhaust for my 93 coupe , ran hood exit last year and made 526whp on 34 pounds of boost
I want to ditch the hood exit and not be quite as heat score this year , just looking for some muffler recommendations that sound and flow good , exhaust will be full 3"

i have a custom made exhaust on my civic using a vibrant muffler and resonator. there is no rasp, no drone, and a deep tone. it almost sounds like a v6. it is 3" from dp to exit.
Vibrant Universal Muffler - StreetPower (1107)
STREETPOWER Oval Muffler
Vibrant Exhaust Fabrication - Standard Resonators (1795)
Stainless Steel Resonator

this is the only pic i have of it, i had a friend tig it up. we put a stainless flowmaster tip on it, didnt want it to look like a coffee can exhaust. it needed a wash for sure.

I like Magnaflow stainless steel mufflers with 3" piping. Straight through design and they're pretty quiet.

Look up Thermal exhaust, I think they sound good. I probably will be going with them and a small 3" Magnaflow round muffler of some type.

KTeller also makes a 3" exhaust. I'm building a turbo "E.g." coupe and ordered mines through them. Comes with mangaflow muffler and resonator. Very good quality. I'm adding a second vibrant resonator in place of the cat for a quieter sound. Also plan on recirculating my dump tube to the downpipe before I tune. Hopefully I have it running in a week or two. I plan on recording a sound clip eventually.

Skunk 2 exhausts tend to be loud & obnoxious, even they admit it.
Tell me... How does this one sound to you?

Ah. Decisions based upon consensus. I'll tell ya now, if you ONLY use that method, thats a bad way to choose a muffler.

Re: Opinions needed: D-series turbo-Exhaust muffler options
i bought a n1 style turbo back exhaust on ebay for $150 3in stainless steel. i just had to cut where it connects to the collector since it bottleneck down to 2.25in. it sounds fine for me, but im not sure what youre looking for at that aspect.

Very simple indeed. 3" Straight downpipe back w/ 3 v-band clamps to a genuine Apex'i Integration N1 3" turbo muffler ( 156-A016 in Black)), tilted at a 12* angle. No resonators, no test pipes, no Catalytic converter. You can also use the current ( 156-A103 ) mufflers. These still use some glass-pack baffling over the cheaper eBay TsudoN1 knock-offs, so that's why they sound so different. The quality is there, most here would rather pay more for additional resonators and nonsense. Now, funny enough, this is before I put in the GSC Camshafts, and the videos below are with CTR camshafts.
I have found after all sorts of combinations and uses over the last decade, the tried and true companies that people still think are for old-school fan-bois (Apex'i, GReddy, HKS, etc) work the best because whether or not they were truly manufactured in Japan or Taiwan, they still take the time to make good mufflers with the better materials. .
Created by my best friend who happens to be a fabricator for Victory Racing Engines (VRE-local) that mainly works on supercharged/turbocharged V8 applications.
Here's the creation
Here's the finished product
Cold Startup on the CTR camshafts
Hopefully this helps in your decision-making, and no, whether it is a D-series or B-series, it won't matter. Using these companies, it will sound good.!

Re: Opinions needed: D-series turbo-Exhaust muffler options
Not to mention, for most people looking at this kind of setup, partial throttle is EXTREMELY important to acknowledge, as that's what you're going to be doing most of the time on any public roads. Going WOT on a public road from a back camera is going to do nothing but throw a lot of wind that has to be filtered out in editing. My examples, were just simple ones, not trying to recreate a movie.
I'll try this.. Perhaps THIS is a better representation, as all others will give a different effect from the GSC T1 camshafts. That's the best anyone can hope for from giving an example at a distance. Perhaps when I complete the new engine (old one had over 70,000 race miles on it) You'll see it at an event and tell for yourself. I'll never get rid of the exhaust system. Sounds too good.
Can only do so much with traffic without being unsafe. Sorry, I don't work that way on my Street/Circuit car.
WOT at the dyno for the 475whp/300lbs-ft run

The setup sounds great for what it is lol.
To give a different perspective, this is what sold me on the kteller.

See, that sounds ok to me, (I know this is all a matter of preference), but I just don't like that higher octave in the upper rpm band caused by the muffler resonance. I just... umm Sounds like the engine is smaller than it actually is. But it's definitely better than most I've heard.
