Opinions on K24a2 n/a vs B18 turbo (GSR or LS)
Would Just like to gather some opinions from some members who have driven or owned both setups to get an idea of what I am going to be getting myself into if I pursue either a K24a2 swap or B18b Turbo. I would like to keep A/C and Power steering as well.
For a budget of $6000 to $7000 which one would be most enjoyable for a street driven car, with occasional track visits (circuit/drag strip)
Would the B series turbo civic ek feel much faster than a k24a2 civic ek?
How bad would the B series turbo if done right heat soak in the middle of summer day driving.
Would a k24a2 civic with bolt-ons including a drop in cam and kpro be just as quick as a turbo B18b with an appropriately sized turbo ? What would the main differences be between these two setups in terms of driving behavior.
What 1/4 times on high performance street tires would I be getting with either build?

I would go LS turbo all the way. Best "street" turbo engine IMO. 300whp plus a ton of torque is doable on a stock b18b. Plus LS engines are cheap and easy to find.

$6k isn't going to get you a K swap, so just go ahead and forget about it now. Your two options are either save up another $4000 for just the K swap (and that's not counting whatever "bolt-ons" or cams you want), or put together a forged rotating assembly in a B series, toss a turbo on it, and easily make more power than you'll know what to do with.

yea no 6k won't get you a running k swap.
the patch wiring harness (uses existing wiring harness if it's obd2a-b), ecu, fuel system, mounts, and axles are 2k by themselves. then you have the exhaust (header, etc), fuel pump, intake, a new intake manifold (depending on what k motor you get it won't clear the core support) then you'll probably need a throttle body adapter and a cable throttle body as most k's are drive by wire.
then new radiator hoses, a coolant elbow adapter, immobilizer delete for the k ecu, a new clutch is a good idea, as is a headgasket, billet tensioner, and new timing chain depending on mileage... when in doubt change it.
then there's the modified shifter box and the modifications to the stock tunnel, the shifter cables, etc.
figure closer to 10k for a properly running, emissions passing, stock k series

Yup. in order to bar the swap you'd have to convert over from a return style fuel system to a returnless. it's fairly simple but it does take some serious modifications to the tank. not to mention the can bus wiring, the extra evap and pressure sensors on the fuel tank
basically the motor has to be 100% stock to pass the bar. from intake to header and exhaust, egr valve, etc. which isn't that simple with a platform that was never designed for a k motor.
although technically the swap should be legal because you're replacing an older motor with a newer one with much better emissions output and better fuel economy. which is really all th govt cares about when it comes to getting a swap approved for street use in California.

has anyone here driven a eg/ek swapped k24a2 car as well as a b series turbo? can you speak a bit about the driving characteristics of each?

Re: Opinions on K24a2 n/a vs B18 turbo (GSR or LS)
Well not in my case, I have a civic coupe, which will need a B series swap, which costs about $3500 to $4000. And then another $4000 or so for turbo parts. So roughly about the same as going all the way for a K.
A shop in the local area which has a great track record has told me to have a budget between $6500 to $7500 for a k24 swap.

8000 gets you a high hp turbo b series
8000 gets you a bone stock k24
Not that hard of a decision lol

Do the k24 swap and turbo it later. A stock k24 can handle a good bit of power in stock form. The k swap will be alot of fun on. 6500-7500 with a shop doing all the work aint bad at all. Can be done cheaper bargain hunting and turning your own wrenches of course.

Re: Opinions on K24a2 n/a vs B18 turbo (GSR or LS)
Also on average k24a2's with boltons are putting down 215-220whp. Buddy of mine puts down 242 with an all oem k24 setup. So the statement about 8k gets you a stock k24 is a bit misleading cause for all motor purposes a stock k24 will beat up on built b series.

For all motor purposes a k24 is a good choice, however considering that he's posting this in FI makes me think natural aspiration isn't part of his plans.

You guys are missing my point. All my statements were in response to wantboost saying 8k for a STOCK k24. I just felt it was a bit misleading of a statement. And i was refering to all motor stock k vs all motor built b. Im not retarded......... well at least i dont think i am.

I did all the work myself but I have JDM B18B with GSR trans, it was maybe $2800ish to make it turn key. That was with a bunch of aftermarket parts that I did not NEED too. You could probably do it if you tried for closer to 2k if you didn't buy a bunch of after market stuff like I did and stuck with an LS trans. I dyno'd at 130whp 118wtq.
"Would the B series turbo civic ek feel much faster than a k24a2 civic ek?"
With an 8k budget 100% yes would be night and day meaning it would feel a hell of a lot faster than a stock K swap.
As far as your question on 1/4 mile, that will depend on you as a driver.
