opinions on this h23 built block (pics)
ok here's the deal....... i'm thinking about buying this built h23 block that supposedly has je 9.5.1 forged pistons, crower rods, ohio iron sleeved block, chambfered crank and moroso oil pan. what i'm wondering is, what you guys think of the condition of the block, mainly the sleeves. heres some pics ..
the thing that i'm unsure about is that on the walls of the cylinders it looks like the pistons have done a little scraping. those of you that have worked with sleeved blocks what do you think. is that normal? the seller said, and i quote, "it is the honing they have to do, its like resurfacing a flywheel or turing brake rotors you can check with a shop or a dealership. The the rings have to seat also much like a brake pad or a clutch i hope thats understandable." I just want opinions on if it's worth spending 1000+ on it.
thanks

run your fingernail around the cylinders. if you can feel any snags it will need at least honed ifnot bored a little. Its not the best method but its acurate. They look a little worn to me.

well i just bought this block of the guy. I took it to a shop that said they dont know if the water jacket runs in between the sleeves or if their siomeas. If this is a problem I will have to get resleeved am i gonna be able to re-use pistons?..or just new rings? Im kinda pissed that this guy didnt tell me the walls were cracked in between but this could be a small problem. Ive only paid the guy 500 so far if this is gonna cost me out the *** to fix hes not getting his other 500.

same sleeves that are in my car. i have been getting my blocks done like that for about 300 dollars. this includes sleeves and labor. pistons with rings are around 450. usable block and crank about 350. the only real difference is the price of a set of rods.

Likes like some pretty good black death in one of those cycl. Id bet the piston is going to come out pretty scared as well. If you pull it apart, you can hone the walls, get s new set of rings and bead blast the side of the pistons where the score marks are and hope everything else is ok and good to go. Looks kinda bad in second pic. from the top. I guess you only really paid 500 bucks though which is good.
