Default Opinions on Cranks

Well, not too long ago i spun a bearing in my setup. Going to begin the tear down this week and i just wanted to know everybodies opinion on reusing a crank from a spun bearing setup.

Is it worth it? Can you still have it machined and balance the bottom end and still be fine? Had a GSR crank in the block with OEM bearings, i was going to get the crank machined and then throw some ACL bearings in and have a local shop balance the bottom. Any opinions/comments would be useful.

Thank You

depends on how much needs to come off, i know with the buicks, we never went more than 0.010 and 0.010

Just get another crank.GSR's go for around $150 on ebay and such.Honda cranks are nitrided when new. This surface hardening process only goes .008" or .010" deep.Reground Honda cranks don't seem to last very long without nitriding again.Regrinding costs around $100 and nitriding is about the same. Now your limited to bearing availability.

I spun a bearing, all my bottom end bearings are .5mm oversize and I put alot of miles on my old setup and about 2k on this setup now with no problems yet, this block is really on its last straw, pistons are .016 out of the bore too

to be honest, theres NO way i would chance getting the crank machined then putting new crankshaft bearings on it. After waiting for a machine shop to get it done and all you save about $50 bucks, but now got the thought in the back of your head. I've had buddies go that way and it didnt come out good. I'd just buy a used crank. good luck man

Go with an LS/B20 89mm crank if your getting a new crank. They are cheaper/lighter than GSR/ITR/B16 cranks. Have it micropolished and balanced. mmm stroke.

EDITED cuz Boostfed is a dumbass and doesn't read!!!

I would try to get a new one if possible, usually you have to use oversized bearings on a spun rod bearing crank if it damaged it bad.

It will cost you more to repair the damaged crank than it will to buy a used one. Buy another crank and save money and headache.

is there anything i should look for when trying to pick up a new (used) crank

like somebody that spun a bearing with one, got it machined and tried to pass it off as a good crank, any signs? or i would only measurements tell me that
