Default oohhhh no Cyc #3 has pissed on me!

I have a Greddy turbo kit at 5.5 psi (stock boost) with the blue box, hondata was going to go in, but i did a quick compression test cause I was bored this morning.

In the past its been like this 190 180 190 210, all in all an okay #'s for a stock bottom end. That was about 2 months ago. Here are todays results 190 90 190 210. bahhh cyc 3 has hit me up. My last oil change was odd cause not that much came out. I was having lots of blow by, but I just thought it was normal on me. Also it was making a weird idle noise, but I thought since I had the new exhaust on, I just had to get used to the new "sounds". Also the car has been giving me some weird start up's. So linking all this together it makes sense, IMO.

I added a drop of oil to cyc 3 and it only want up to like 95-100. So does this mean for sure the rings are shot? I guess if the block is going to come out I want to do it once and right.

So my main question is this:

1. I guess its drivable as long as I don't boost correct, or will I make things worse?

2. What the typical rebuild sequence ..Rods, pistons, thicker head gasket, sleeve it or just a hone?

FYI ...
I've had the Greddy Kit for 21k miles with no problems, so I think 21k of hassle free boosting is awesome compared to the horror stories I have read on here. FYI I have 72k on my 2000 Civic Si.

Any suggestions would def help, to be honest I'm not sure what to do, and like I said I want to do it right the first time.

Thanks
- Fred

Do a leakdown test but I'm 85% sure its your ring lands in #3.

if your compression numbers only went up 10 points, im going to have to say the ringlands and not just worn out rings. good luck on the rebuild

In all honesty, I wouldn't even boost my car with 3PSI boost without a standalone and major tuning! but, that's just me...i like my car to run like stock or better, or I won't jack with it at all.....21K miles boosted is NOT a standard to live by...

Also, u might wanna take the head off to evaluate the damage...until then, i WOULD NOT drive on it...

good luck..

yeah dude but the Greddy Blue box isn't that bad, yeah it runs rich and u might kill an 02 sensor or 2, but its def acceptable IMO. I don't think running rich could have caused a ring-land to dump, but maybe wear and tare, who knows - Im not expert.

[edit] Also the VAFC hack too, and that seems to work fine, just FYI

And she's gonna sit in the garage, so far 3 HT'ers said they would help me to pull the block Ill keep everyone posted, thanks for the responses!

Bump for me.

damn dude that sucks. you could probably rebuild it with a stock piston for really cheap and it will last you another 20k miles, but i bet if you get that hondata it could last longer. Don't be discouraged though it happens to everyone at least once, its what u do when it happens that counts. good luck

hey chris ..

It sucks but Im kinda excited about this rebuild, Ill have downtime, but oh well, its just part of the fun! All the cool guys are doing rebuild anyways, I mean Arts been since October, lol. Ill keep everyone posted, hopefully I can get the block out soon, once I decide what setup to go with.

Tony Suggested 9:1 compression and stock headgasket. Arias pistons and crower rods. Golden eagle or aebs sleeves. This one is gonna break the bank, but then I can one of those sexy 275 whp + dyno's

bump for me

you can do one more thing, pull out the dipstick at idle, if you;re smoking, then I am pretty sure it's the ringlands. I am pretty sure as is now looking at your compression numbers.

you can drive it around for the mean time, just shift at 3-4K or so, and you;ll be fine. I drove my car to L.A. from dallas in 2 days with cracked ringlands in the middle of summer. Check your oil often and plan to rebuild soon.

9:1 CR is good, AEBS and GE are good sleeves too. I have GE and it's fine as it is.

That sucks man. Do you think it might have to do with your new larger exhaust causing you to lean out some? I am planning to do the same, since i can afford the downtime right now. Maybe we should compare notes and setups. I am thinking about a higher compression, ~9.5:1. BUt i have to talk to tony about it. He was pretty busy this weekend. Sorry to hear about your loss, but it does not seem that you are down and out, which is good. Hnag in, it will be worth the +300 whp dyno pulls

so many pples cars i know having something break this week!!!! its a damn curse or something. i know it's related to this damn rain/shine weather we're getting

break that piggybank and let's pull that block already!

hehe, seriously tho, save up ur pennies and research until ur sure what u want. that thing should be a beast when we're done with it. haha, remember when u wanted to sell the greddy for some real power? that probably wouldve ended faster and worst than now, so at least u made the good choice. lemme know when u need me

hey Joe, timing was stock as per the greddy instructions. But i did notice at the spark plug was white, maybe with the new exhaust made me run lean?
