ONEOVER/Modern Muscle Build#2
Well as some of you all may know i parted out the vitara setup and sold the hatch. The car was awesome for a budget car, with 4340.00 in total invested the car went a best of 11.23@126 on 20psi. All went down hill from there. After a lot of driveline issues i quickly got frustrated. SO.... picked up a eg coupe car with a much straighter body and cleaner paint(pics to come). Another bonus....car had a full gsr swap in it. The bad....car had an oil pump go bad and it ruined the block and almost ruined the crank. Found another block and a b16 head. Will update this with pics asap but a basic rundown of the build goes like this.......
b18c1 block 81.5mm
Manley Pistons
Pauter Rods
gsr crank micropolished
acl race bearings
new oem oil pump, water pump, tensioner, timing belt.
Oem Head gasket
b16 head
gsr cams
???springs and retainers
Stock valves
Stock ports
afi topmount manifold
gt35r (I have 2 housings for it, a ceramic coated .82 and a uncoated 1.06)
Modern Muscle 3'' down pipe- waiting on flanges
Tial 44mm WG
Tial Bov
Greddy intercooler core(i have a precision 750hpcore if this one doesnt work out.
SRE cold side piping, Modern Muscle Custom hotside.
Not sure about intake manifold yet, probably a vicX if i can find one.
Stock tb
880cc injectors
aem 3.5bar map sensor
mac boost control solenoid
Innovate lc-1 wbo2
Car will be tuned by DK on ectuneP28
Stock gsr trans
Clutch masters fx700?
welded diff for now, planning on doing a nice lsd later
stock or autozone axels!!!
Welded motor and tranny mounts.
Overall goals, looking for some mid 10s at anything for 130-140, Main thing is i want a good street car, looking for 450 or so on pump gas and 550-600 on race gas, really depends on how much we wanna push it.
Those reading, please give clutch opinions, and exhaust housing opinions. Also if you have used a welded diff and a lsd share your experience. I had a welded diff in the d series car and it was awesome at the track, many mid and high 1.6 60fts but seemed to spin really bad on the street, worse than friends higher hp fwd cars. Might have been torque, idk.
Thanks guys and wish us luck!!

Looking to have the car out by the last day of october, maybe a little sooner.

Re: ONEOVER/Modern Muscle Build#2
What are you HP goals? any reason you went with the 880cc injectors? seems like everyone is throwing 1000's in nowadays even if they don't "need" them.

Re: ONEOVER/Modern Muscle Build#2
hp goals are in first post. I already had the 880s and am considering some 1000s as this all comes together. I am also considering dual walbros as i have everything i need to put it together. And im sure we are going to run out of fuel before we run out of anything else.

This is almost the same setup that I am building! But I'm running cp pistons. I'm excited to see what kind of numbers you will get!

no. Stock sleeves. I am really undecided on which exhaust housing to run. I am also undecided on which clutch to order. Either CC stage 5 0420 or a twin.

Re: ONEOVER/Modern Muscle Build#2
go with the .82, you will hate the 1.06 on the street. your going to want bigger injectors then 880s for 600whp. you might get 500whp out of the 880s. and for the clutch i had a action clutch on my 450hp setup and loved to for its ease of street divering and it never slipped on me.

I'm with you on the .82 housing, I think we should start with that as its easy to change at a later date.
I think it needs some bosch 1ks! They are very nice to tune with!
I called roberts, he needs bearings by tom, I'll drive them up there today.
Pm me if you need anything!

Re: ONEOVER/Modern Muscle Build#2
talked to him, he is thinking wed it will be done. In negotiations for a clutch right now, so i just need my oem honda stuff. Anybody use the FJ distributors gasket kit with the headgasket? I was thinking about buying it but without the HG and just get an oem HG.
Was also going to ask for suggestions on copper spray vs hondabond vs nothing.
In the past we have coppersprayed the headgasket and had good luck, bothe surfaces will be true so it probably wont need anything but i have heard people using hondabond around the fire rings. lmk.

Re: ONEOVER/Modern Muscle Build#2
ok, got the motor, all the oem stuff. Had the head checked for flatness and it was good. So i cleaned it with some diesel fuel(the best cleaner ever!!!) And it is drying. I put the head studs in. I need a new can of copper spray and ill slap the head on her tomorrow.
I guess i am going to forget about getting an aftermarket oil pan, thought i had one lined up but the deal fell thru. A friend of mine is letting me use a stock intake manifold if i dont pick up something else. Looking to have it running by the middle of next week.

Re: ONEOVER/Modern Muscle Build#2
progress is slow but the head is torqued down and i have found a victorx that a friend is going to let me use til i can find one. SO thats good news. Main things to get done... diff welded, tranny on motor and drop it in.
Hoping to work on it hard for a couple days and have it running.
Also.....we are going to use a set of 1600cc precisions that i have laying in the garage. We will see what happens.

Re: ONEOVER/Modern Muscle Build#2
ok, got the diff welded and the pan tapped. Got the turbo lines plumbed and all that done, time to drop it in and get her started. Also picked up a set of slicks last night.
I will post some pics thursday or friday.

Re: ONEOVER/Modern Muscle Build#2
ok...big progress.
Got the motor in and downpipe ran. Started on the charge piping and worked on getting it started. The 1600s just dont seem to behave without a injector driver box....had heard this but wanted to see first hand. Guess we will be going back with the 880s unless i get some 1000s by tuesday.
Got some drag wheels and some valve springs too. Probably going to put a head together after next weekend.
Pics to come.

Re: ONEOVER/Modern Muscle Build#2
An FJO injector driver (for $100+) can make the 1600s work well. Exedy makes a good twin, Tilton works if you are going for 600whp +. Both are pricey.
