OMG!! I hate my turbo!! I hate FI!! I'm so frustrated!
Well, everything bolted up and safc hack and dsm injectors and drag manifold. tubing, dp, everything...
We crank up the motor let it idle for about 15 -20 min, take it around the block slowly. There are no CELs, no fuel leaks, etc...
The Turbo DOESN"t spin. Not at idle anyhow....
The turbo spins a little when you give it gas sitting still....
We took it out on a stretch and close to WOT the car and 0 vacuum is the most boost we get.
What's wrong here???
also, it idles fine, except when you blip the throttle or rev it up...then when rpms drop back down, it's rough for a while...
ANY help would be greatly appreciated....haven't had my car for 1 month...

the turbo is used....the turbo shaft has none to barely any play and it spins pretty nicely when twisted by hand

hrm
... look inside the turbo to see if the wheel is moving, if its not then
if its moving then you proly got a leak somewhere. is oil going to the turbo?

you mean the turbo compressor wheel??
that's exactly what's NOT moving during idle and only a little bit when you rev it up...
WOT and NO boost at all...don't hear the turbo spool at all
what happens if it doesn't move??
oil should be getting to the turbo...used a drag ss line for oil feed and using a -10AN Line for return..(altho it's kinda kinked (not fully, but kinda))

Do you have oil going to it? It should spin if you do. Give it some more gfas and see if you can get some boost.

i cant get boost at all.
we opened it up to WOT and no luck.... vacuum went to 0
no spool noise at all....
oil should be in the turbo, oil feed and return lines are hooked up

I've heard of this before, and not calling you stupid or anything, but....
Is the oil hooked up to the oil passages on the turbo or the water jackets for cooling? I've heard of a few turbo burned up by having this reversed.

sounds a lot more like an exhaust leak to me. probably the turbo isn't getting enough exhaust gases routed thru the turbine somehow. just a thought.

this turbo is oil cooled not water cooled....
the turbo is hooked up to the manifold and everything perfectly...dp has to get welded on the other end to the cat, but that's it...
The wastegate top fitting is left open and I can feel some gas coming out of there, but not a whole lot..
is there a way to adjust the tial wastegate??

how high are you reving it and watching the wheels? did you put the ring in the wastegate? is a little metal ring that seals the wastegate to the flange and also provides a seat for the valve.

Couple things, did you prime the oil line before starting the car with the turbo for the first time? Also, can you feel exhaust coming out the dumptube side of the wastegate during idle?

yeah i primed the oil line, you mean cranking w/o the spark plug wires in right?
i didn't feel the wg dump tube...should i check that??

Before connecting the oil feed line to the turbo, you should have cranked the motor until you built up oil pressure in the line.
But yeah, leave the car idling and see if you can feel any exhaust gases coming out the dump port. There shouldn't be, so if there is then there's a problem with your wastegate.
One more thing, make sure your return line isn't kinked anywhere or else oil will heat up and back up in the center section which can cause it not to spin.

hmmm, before i hooked it up??
i thought after....
so what if there is a problem with the wg??
it's brand new, what could be wrong with it?
i WAS unsure of what to do with that metal ring that came with it....

That metal ring goes between the wastegate flange on the manifold and the wastegate itself. It should sit flush inside the wastegate.
wastegate flange on manifold > metal ring > wastegate
There are a couple ways to prime the oil feed line. I like to crank the motor over until i see oil coming out the line. Then i'll connect it to the turbo and crank it over a few more times to prime the turbo with oil. After that, i'll just fire up the motor and let it idle for about 10 minutes.

Re: OMG!! I hate my turbo!! I hate FI!! I'm so frustrated! (B18EG6)
Here, it's very clear your problem is one of two things. You're wastegate is stuck completely open, or your bearings have partially seized up. make ABSOLUTELY SURE!!! Your wastegate is shut fully under on boost.
At idle, the turbo should be spinning fast. If the wastegate is working you have oil to the turbo, and the turbo does not spin at idle, your bearings are toast. Take the turbo to a shop and have it re-built.
There isn't any other problem, no use checking anything else, this is it.
Sucks for you if your turbo's broke!!! I hate that!

if his wastegate was stuck open, he would hear exhaust dumping out. I'm putting my money on the turbo.

i'm gonna check if the wg is dumping...there should be NO exhaust coming out?
how much is the turbo rebuild??
