Default Oil temp sensor in moroso 5qt pan - what fittings to use

I have the above pictured oil pan and I'm wanting to do away with my Greddy sandwich adapter that was being used for oil temp/pressure senders.

The Moroso pan is tapped for a 1/2 NPT. The Greddy sender is 1/8 BSP. What fittings would make for the cleanest install?

The only working solution I've found is to put a 1/2NPT to 1/8NPT reducer in place and then get a 1/8 bsp female to 1/8 npt male brass fitting to connect the sender.

Anyone found a better way to connect a 1/8BSP sender here? I'm wondering if by using two adapters the sender will be to far away from the oil for an accurate reading?

How thick is the plug? Could you drill and tap it for 1/8 bsp ? Also, are you sure it's not bspt?

it should be bspt...

do what rich said... the easiest thing to do is drill and tap the moroso plug. you should be able to use a ratchet or an offset open ended wrench to install it

or geta 1/2 npt plug, drill and tap it for the sensor

or get a 1/2

I would take it to a fab shop and have a the proper thread bung welded into the pan.

Clean it up nice and bring them the parts. Pay with cash. It will be cheap and most reliable.

I wasn't impressed with my Moroso. It leaked from day one around the welds so I took it in and had them take out the factory bungs and reweld the seems. Better then new.

they give you a threaded bung just for the oil temp sensor... its big because not all sensors are the same size.

i've never had a moroso leak on me... just use what moroso gave you, it's simpler

The plug they used has a hex key so I don't think it would work for tapping. I misspoke in my first post it is BSPT. I read up on the whole parallel vs tapered threads.

Thanks for the creative ideas guys. I've got a drill press so I think I'm going to try and drill a 8.4mm hole in the pictured hex plug and then try and tap it for 1/8 bspt.

If this doesn't work out well the other option is to weld in a new bung on the more ideal rear side of the pan. However I can't seem to find anyone that sells BSPT bungs, I'm only seeing NPT... Anyone found such a thing?

It might be easiest for the machine shop to make one for you if you go that route unless you can find something cheap. They will have all the tools and materials on hand if they are any good. If they are really good they will do it while you wait since its so easy.

the top bung was only half welded on mine. Slipped through qc.

i've seen some people tap the standard moroso plug, but you'd have to have one of the small low profile sensors.

what you posted is perfect, most of the npt plugs for the pans are either recessed he or raised squares... that bolt head will make installation and removal much easier, plus it gives a nice, flat surface for sealing

I just used the 1/2" to 1/8" bushing with my GReddy temp sensor.

Try eBay UK , I tend to order little bits like this off eBay myself. It shouldn't cost much at all to ship it over to the US.
