what size oil restrictor hole to use. B16 running a Garrett T3/T04e. Turbo was leaking with straight -4AN oil feed, so i am installing restrictor. what size to run???
1.62mm is stock opening. can go to 5mm??

If you have access to a welder, you can weld the hole on the inlet fitting shut and drill a smaller hole. I recently did this with my borg warner t3/t04e that was leaking oil with a -3an feed and it fixed the problem. BTW, I used a 1/16 drill bit on mine.

I'm kinda worried about starving the turbo of oil though. how long have you been running it that way???????

It's only been about a week and a half, but everything seems to be good so far.

So welding and drilling a fitting is a good option? I have AN4 oil lines and I need a solution too.

All the reducers I've seen are NPT, which would just "clutter" my oil lines.

dude, the picture I posted is a 4AN restrictor flange. I didn't say anything about welding and drilling. here's where I got mine. very quick shipping to.

Works well for me.. I didn't want to pay $14 + shipping for a restrictor, so I busted out my trusty flux core mig and it turned out really nice.

If you do it, make sure it's a good weld and doesn't break loose under high oil pressure. I beat on mine with a punch and hammer after I was done because I was afraid of it breaking off and going through my turbo

bump anyone else using a restrictor, also is it to late, i mean are the seals completely ruined now if it was leaking because of to much oil pressure? or will it be OK when I put this on???

if the oil is passin by the seals it doesnt blow them out right away, i drove like that for 3 months and fixed my return and didnt smoke anymore. I've never seen a turbo blow cause of high pressure yet. I guess im the only one thats using a 4an line and 10an return without any problems.

Mine ruined the seals on a perfectly rebuilt turbo.. so im going with yes it can ruin the seals and if its not that bad it can be fixed and run normal, just not in my case..

I know you dont want to weld or anything but "bubs" idea is actually a good one. I also had that problem with the turbo leaking on a -3an line so what I did wa had the oil inlet fitting welded on the bottom and used a 1/16th drill bit like what bubs was talking about. Now I dont have to wait for over a week for a restrictor to come to me in the mail plus $14+. Here are some pics:

I like the oil restrictor uptop (ebay). Did it come with a gasket? For that price ($14+$5 s/h) it's about the same price as a nice aluminum fitting. I don't trust that it won't leak w/o a gasket though. If anyoone hase received one, please post your opinion of the fitment.

yes it has a copper gasket on the bottom. you have to peel off this protective layer just before mounting it. pretty sure it won't leak.
