Oil pressure too low for b series vtec?
Had an oil change recently. used mobil 1 15w50 and older type honda filter (i've always been using that type of filter). now, my reading are lower than usual.
it still goes up to ~80psi sometimes when i accelerate but settles down to 69-71psi at 4krpm and higher. oil is still fresh.. i can't believe that oil can be that thin so i'll try to change the filter.
my readings with shell 5w40 were 72-75psi at 4krpm and higher.. what gives?
anyone else using mobil 1 15w50, what type of engine and filter

In the manual, oil pressure should be at the minimun of 50 psi at 3000rpm. What is your oil pressure at 3000rpm?

im not sure if its lower at 3k rpm so i'll check, i normally just pay attention to idle and 4krpm cause thats where it settles down at 72-75psi.

my vtec works and everything.. only time i had this low of pressure when i ran 5w30 during engine break in.. i'll be switching oil filter first, hopefully that will do it.

It takes like 20 minutes of *real* driving until oil pressure stabilizes.
when you are up in the 60+psi range, a few PSI of oil pressure really doesn't matter. There is a regulator/bypass in the oil pump to keep pressure from getting over 6bar anyways. When it gets that high it cuts it off and there should be a max of 5bar oil pressure (~75psi). i.e, at high RPM or low RPM when the motor is cold/relatively cold.

yes, i'm reffering to after 20 minutes of driving, after pressure settles down. i warm up the car for 10-15 minutes anyway but it still takes few miles until pressure settles down. it normally would be 5.1-5.3 bar or kg/cm2, but in my latest runs it was more like 4.8-4.9 kg/cm2 below 5 kg/cm2 mark.

As long as you're not seeing like 35-40psi @ 3000rpm, you're fine.
w/ stock gsr using 10w30 in hot weather I see about 60psi @ 3000rpm.

i replaced the filter and that was a waste of good filter they don't make anymore - poh-305 made in US. mobil 1 15w50 supposed to have HTHS of 4.7? at least thats according to manufacturer.
i'm showing average reading of 4.2kg/cm2 at 3k rpm.. i guess thats about 60psi..

Yeah i still have some of the old filters floating around. I bought like 10 a couple years ago. I also have a bunch of the new mini ones... don't like them.

i bought like 120 or 150 of them as they were being discontinued. this is not just for one car, but should last for several years
