oil pressure running low while break in sc61 gsr eagle ls rods srp pistons ls 8:5:1
Well I was letting my civic warm up after I did a 15 min idle and changed the oil and after I changed the oil I noticed that my oil pressure was only 11 psi when warmed up and I thought oh crap it should be like 20-30 psi like my friends ls block lsvtec build, I am wondering what my oil pressure should be and how much oil should exactly be in the motor like 4 quarts or 3.5 and also noticed the car starting to smoke a little when breaking in the rings at the 4000-5300 rpm range

but stopped smoking after that motor only has a half a mile on it, it is a brand new build and I want to tune because right now I am only running on a basemap too.

at 4000 rpm oil pressure hit 90psi running fast turbo oil line kit and at 2000 rpm about 55psi but at idle it is around 11-20 psi depending on how warm it is when fully cold it is at 40psi and it runs good but I dont want to mess anything up

I just finished my build JDM GSR Eagle rods, wiseco pistons, acl bearings, and my idle oil pressure is about 40 I believe or somewhere the 30-40 range. Did you build the motor or a shop? Maybe bearing clearances too tight?

I dont know figured if there tight and its not flowing enough to get to his gauge. But probably wrong.

typically you would run the oil gauge right off the filter housing since its the first thing to see oil since the oil is filtered first. assuming he has it ran this way it would see actual oil pressure the pump is supplying. tighter clearances will cause higher oil pressure since there is less space for the oil to travel through whereas looser clearances causes lower pressure since oil can flow through alot easier. take a turbo oil feed line and return line for example the feed line is usually small and has pressure whereas the return doesnt have pressure because it is larger to drain the oil back faster.
op, the smoke was just blow by from where the rings had not seated. if it is not smoking anymore i wouldn worry too much about it since the rings prob have seated. as for the oil pressure what are the clearances and who did you have build the motor? i would talk to them about it, and i would check the oil pump

I built this engine, I think it may be the oil pump as it is a used on with some racing miles on it. The mains and rod bearings are all into spec, engine starts up with 80-90psi of oil pressure, once warmed up 11-20 psi oil pressure. Something is up!

I think it may be from only having about 3.5 quarts of oil because the drain leaks a little and I always put 4 quarts of oil.

I think the rings are starting to seat in and me and turboman2.2 built the motor, do you think it could be that low of an oil pressure because of the golden eagle squirter plugs and looser clearances because this motor will see about 500-600whp

or could it be from the oil weight running 10w30, temps where running fine and fuel pressure was at a steady 50 psi too

If you don't think something is right then you need to start stripping the engine down and inspecting. Your better off catching it now than at 9000rpm

do you think a little more oil should change the oil pressure and also whats the correct oil pressure for this setup at full warm up after a couple runs to 5000rpms

It could be the pump, take it off and inspect it. Forget about the dyno for now.

i guess I can do that but how do you know if the oil pump is good because the only way I know how to check a oil pump is by looking at the oil pump gears and see if they look in good shape and I did that before the build too and by the way the oil pump is from an obd2 gsr 1996

Re: oil pressure running low while break in sc61 gsr eagle ls rods srp pistons ls 8:5
but it shouldn't be the oil pump because it is 11-20 psi oil pressure when fully warmed up and doing a couple runs and at 3000 rpm it is at 60psi so that means the oil pump is still good and everything is going as its supposed to be especially because of my loose clearances for more power in the future, i got the information on oil pressure from haynes manual on honda-tech https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/low-vtec-pressure-oil-pump-2939937/
