Terry... I'll measure one of my extra ones tonight! The hole is kinda small so me and my friends always open it up to 7/32" with a drill bit.

I have nonvtec oil pump. With a mechanical Autometer gauge I see as high as 95 psi at upper RPM and hard acceleration, but about 80 under normal acceleration.

damn thats alot of oil pressure for a turbo seal to indure,no wonder oil seals are always going on turbo hondas.

this is a major concern for me and im not sure how to address it,dont know if i should use some sort of oil restrictor or bigger than normal line to reduce pressure or what?

i know in the book "maximum boost" it states minimum of 7 psi and maximum of 40-50 psi? (i dont remember the exact numbers) i have seen pics of the hks oil pressure reducer, does anone know where to buy it and how much?

I spoke with turbonetics about this very issue. They say pressure is only part of it and flow being another. They said that a -4AN line from the block should be just fine but no larger as that would allow too much flow and therefore too high a pressure. You don't send a larger line to the oil inlet thinking that will "reduce pressure". I worry about this issue too since I just had my brand new turbo back to their factory to be rebuilt after the piston ring on the turbine wore and started blowing oil out my exhaust. They think it was more likely due to a flaw in their production rather than anything with my setup which I described to them in detail.

If anyone can prove that this is a REAL issue and make a valid point for using an oil restrictor then please speak up...I'm all ears.

ok... a friend's CA18DET powered 180SX with an HKS t4/t3 thought his turbine was blown. I took it completely apart and overhauled it for him eventhough everything seemed to be OK. The car smoked really bad as soon as he boosted the first time. I changed the inlet from a unrestricted 1/8" to restricted 1/8" and the problem went away. He has been boosting 17psi for 9 months w/o a problem.

Oil ran past the seals because the center housing was over filling like a mo' fo'. This had nothing to do with his return line because it's a -10 that has a straight shot to the factory oil return location on the block. The unrestricted orfice was just feeling the hosuing too fast. Another friend with same turbo on an SR20DET powered 180SX is using an unrestricted inlet and he hasn't had any problems. No two setups will perform the same....

hm...

50 psi... i think should be easily acheivable with a -4 AN line and with a restrictor...

i'm looking to purchase about a 100 NPT adapters...

probably go for like $5-$7 each...

lemme know what you guys think

So what are you saying? Is it ok to use a -4AN line without any other kind of flow restrictor???

thanks

We all use the HKS restrictor that is opened to 7/32" with a -4 to 1/8" fitting and -4 line..

CA18's and SR20's run oil pressures that are similar to Honda's. I'll get the excat number from one of my freinds later...

From Summit..

EAR-981604 -4an to 1/8" npt straight adapter $1.75

use 981604 only when searching on other sites that sell Earl's fittings

I'll sell how many the local turbo pro shop has when I go looking for turbo timer harnesses tomorrow. The price range for the harness is $10~$19 depending on the make of the car and maker of the harness. I'll post a price for the HKS restrictor within the next two days...

The restrictor is built into the HKS inlet adapter. I will give you guys that pn after I get my hands on the HKS catalog.
