oil pressure - only reaching 50 psi at wot
my oil pressure seems pretty low compared to what i'm seeing others have on h-t. first off, it's a internally stock gsr engine, i'm running mobil 1 synthetic 5w-30 with a k&n filter. i don't have any oil leaks that i can see and don't seem to be burning any oil. at idle the oil pressure is about 50 psi with the engine completely cold and 15 psi fully warmed up. the oil pressure never seems to go above 55 psi; whether i'm crusing at 3-4k rpm or redlinining it the pressure sit at about 50 psi, very rarely going up to about 55 psi. isn't wot oil pressure supposed to be about 80 psi?
another thing i've noticed in the last couple days is that when i just start the car and the engine is completely cold the low oil pressure light seems to stay on a second longer than it did before. the engine has 86k miles, with about 900 miles being with the turbo.
does what i'm describing sound pretty normal, or is something wrong here?

as far as i know, the gauge is working properly; don't really have any reason to think otherwise. its a mechanical autometer gauge that i bought new. no restrictors anywhere on the lines. i'm not sure what size they are.
i have an oil line running to where the stock oil pressure sensor goes. this connects to a cluster of fittings to which i have connected the stock oil pressure sensor, line for the gauge, and the oil feed line.

recheck the way you set-it up and why arent you using a restrictor on the oil feed lines a turbo only need 3-10psi of oil pressure. also if you have a friend with a GE or some other type of oil block adaptor use it to test and make sure you didnt set something up wrong

Re: (tony413)
i've actually rechecked all the oil lines before. the first time around i didn't use very much teflon tape and oil was leaking through every connection. i took every single connection apart and put on a lot more tape, which stopped all the leaks. the oil pressure was about the same as now with the leaks, just that it was going all over the ground. i do have a ge sandwich plate laying around but it's a lot of work to put it in; it means competely redoing the oil lines, since i'd have to put the stock oil pressure sensor back in the block.
about the turbo oil restrictor; i've heard that turbonetics turbos have a restrictor built in. it's a turbonetics t3/t4 that i bought used. the previous owner claimed to have recently rebuilt it before selling. there is very minimal shaft play up and down and none whatsoever side to side. i checked the shaft play a couple days ago and it felt the same as when i just got it.

ok i'll check up on that about the turbonatics i havent used their products yet so im not aware. but usually when you over pressurize the oil feed you get coking and it builds up untill you hear a horrible sound. and about the sandwich plate it may be worth your wild

Re: (tony413)
regardless, i'm asking about the oil pressure in general, not about how much i should run through the turbo. i'm just wondering if my #'s sound right or if something's wrong with them.

make sure there is a SOLID ground
i taped mine into stereo harness
and it sucked
read low like zero @ idle and 50 wot
then when i drove 50-60 miles at 70-80 it starts to go lower and lower
I finally moved the ground to a bolt on the stereo frame and now it works perfectly fine
i did some searching and i rmeember it saying
3k should be 60+
dont quote me tho
this is for a ls
i guess it doesnt help you much
hth and good luck

Re: (civicdxtyper)
if you Tee'd the oil pressure gauge along with the oil feed line, I have found that Tee'ing these two together will give false readings on the oil pressure gauge.
The turbo sucks the oil up too fast causing the gauge to not read the correct pressure.
Seperate them and see if the pressure changes.

yeah everything's run off the same clump of fittings. so did you end up running a T and a sandwich plate, or what?
