Oil press low at idle, or reading low at idle?
I had another thread about this, but I think it got deleted for some reason. Anyway, this is an h22 motor, sleeved and built and all, on 10-40 oil right now. Thinking of going to 15-50 but well see. Anyways, driving it seems fine, but after the car is warmed up, it can drop below 10psi at idle very easily, this is even with normal driving. I tried a mechanical gauge and it was reading the same thing at idle after the car was warmed up.
The oil press sender is T'd off of the oil feed, which is a fairly thick line, could that be it? I think its either that, or the oil is just getting too thin? So either try thicker oil, or try a thin sandwich plate like MF's.

they say you have to have 10psi per 1,000 rpm... so if you are idling at 800 rpm then 8psi would be decent I guess.. that does sound a bit low. and I dont think you should go up much thicker on the oil.

LS_DX why do you advice against thicker oil? Also my idle is about 1000rpm

its funny you mentioned this.......i wonder if its a common issue with H22's. my friends sleeved H22 does the same thing.....we never got around to check with a proper mechanical oil pressure gauge to see if his electric gauge is correct. but his oil pressure gauge drops close to 0 at idle when warm. and he gets about 50-60psi MAX when hot.
the oil light never comes on when the gauge hits 0 so it leads me to believe the gauge is wrong........atleast he hopes......hehe.

the stock location for the pressure switch is the best spot for oil pressure readings....it gets a reading prior to going to the oil filter. if you get a sandwich adapter the readings might be a little diffrent....not much but diffrent.
i dont know the fully history behind my friends H22 setup...he purchased the car that way and its was like that when he got it.....it could be the enigne was spec'd on the loose side for bearing clearance which is kinda dumb IMO for a street driven car.
if you engine is assembled properly it should have great oil pressure all the time....also you can shim the oil pump relif spring for more over all oil pressure and it should be fine.
