Default Oil Cooler install with turbo teg

If anyone has any experience at all with the placement of the fins from an oil cooler, please make suggestions. I am looking to drop the boost and school some porsche boys at the track. The IC takes up so much space. BTW, removed the A/C. Hell, cooler is better. Post pics, email me, IM. My car is apart now and I have an opportunity to add this without hassle.

Thanks all

Pics from the initial install. Air is ducted from the front bumper and to the frontside of the cooler. Air flows thru the slits in the wheel well cover but I will be replacing that cover and cutting slits in the bumper since rocks on other crap keeps getting flung onto the cooler. Since I killed my AC a couple weeks ago I might install the oil cooler behind the IC so I can make an induction box for the Turbo.

isnt it better to remove all that unnecessary rubber guards from the fender wall? mine is cut so that its showing and there is more air flow.

I cut slits in the wheel well guard to limit debri damage. Soon I will be using screen covered rectangular opening in the bumper for better flow.

check the 3rd album. My 17 row oil cooler is mounted in the upper right corner (when you stand infront the car) between the intercooler and the radiator. MY tuer made it well and he has to replace the radiator for a few mm.

Do these oil coolers really make a difference or necessary at low boost setting of say 10lbs or is it more for higher boost?

Your oil gets hotter, cause the turbine of the turbo is spinning very fast.

Yeah, I understand what they do, but I'm wondering if it will really make a difference if I"m only boosting at like 9-10 psi?

you could run a fan to it, off a relay or switch for sitting at stoplights.

a good thought was just mentioned, put your oil cooler in the wheel well. it won't have much air flow, but put a small fan on the front of it with ethier a switch, or a thermostat that'll come on when the oils hot. or just make it so it comes on when your radiator fans come on, or to a switch when your at a track day?

I have mine between the ic and the radiator. If anyone can host em I can email pics. The ic is the popular spearco unit, 24x8x3? Anywho, because of the oil cooler, I had to push the IC a bit forward for the install and consequently I had to cut up the bumber a bit-just the lower "grill" portion though.

I don't like any of these solutions. I don't want to start a fight, but I think we should keep searching for other options.

In front of the intercooler... heats up charge air.

Behind the intercooler, heats up the engine compartment, leads to heatsoak, plus the conductive, radiative effect on the itnercooler.

Wheel-well, heats up the brakes...

I'm thinking about maybe mounting it horizontally, behind/under the engine, in front of the firewall...

I dunno, I'm still looking at finding other options. If your happy with the current available options, that's fine, I'm not here to debate the merits, I'm not 100% satisfied, and am still looking to see if we can come up with something else.

Mounting it in the wheelwell heats up the brakes? Bwahahahahaha! You are dumb!

My new setup will still be located in the wheelwell but air will exit from a screened cutout in the bumper and the OC will have thermo controlled fan.
