oil coming out of exhaust
Hey i was told by full race geoff that the new garret turbos cant have a broken seal because the seal is done by a piston rather than what it used to be like ( dont know how it was sealed before). But I was wondering if you all have heard about that? Also, oil is coming out of my exhaust and i just replaced my valve guides and seals with brand new oem seals so I dont think its that. What could it be and is it bad??

Re: oil coming out of exhaust (b18bturbo)
my return line i think is ok but could possibly be getting backed up when i put too much oil in the pan. its wierd cuz it only happens sometimes. As far as the feen line goes im not sure the size -3 or -4 im sure.

I should have read your post a little more clearly, I read oil coming from exhaust, I just assumed out of your exhaust pipe, meaning your rings are bad.
As for oil coming out of the exhaust side of teh turbo, may be from too much oil, but also possibly could be the turbo is bad.
That is the exact thing my TD05-18G did and it ended up my turbo was done!

There is oil coming from my exhaust pipe I guess it could be anything, oh well. I was thinking it was the turbo though because it didnt do this before i was turbo.

If it didnt do it before and now that you put the turbo on and all the suden it is leaking oil from the exhaust pipe the only thing that comes to my mind is selas in the turbo.

Re: oil coming out of exhaust (IloveShannon)
a turbo will have oil go past the exhaust seal for 2 reasons
1) too big of a line on the oil feed. You are using a -3 line so this is NOT the reason
2) Oil return is getting backed up. I am quite sure this is what is happening. When you say it only happens sometimes, think about when it does and does not happen.
does it happen when you are parked, uphill?
does it happen when you are parked downhill?
does it happen when you are low on oil?
does it happen when you just did an oil change?
more than likely the answers will be no, yes, no, yes. If this is the case, the oil return bung on your oil pan is probably too low, you are overfilling your oil pan, OR your oil return line has a restriction/kink somewhere in it.
any other questions, email me.
