Thanks man, I'm really waiting until I build the bottom end to eventually step out of the early 1990's. I know for what I have right now it is pretty much at its limit, but I'm happy with it.

kms? Miles? Head has 14,xxx turbo miles, block has 6,xxx turbo. Don't remember exactly but around there.

What I think is this:

Most people listen to whatever the majority is, and most of the time it's for good reason. When it comes to FMU's, any performance textbook or internet resource will tell you that it was designed for low boost applications (under 10psi). I have run 20 psi on this setup on 2 separate cars with no problems on C16. What some people don't realize is yes I'm running an FMU, but keep in mind that the car was dyno tuned, and I'm also running 15+ psi on C16 - which is key. I run this setup on 12psi pump all the time wihtout an issue. Runs a little rich at that psi, but still drives nice.

I only ran with this setup because at the time, like 3 years ago, engine management was still pretty expensive. This was an alternative, maybe not the best, but it worked. The horror stories associated with FMU's come from when Importparts.com was selling DRAG kits left and right and dudes were turning the boost way up on their 12:1's and stock injectors untuned...blam.

Also, what I'm running is not to be confused with the infamous "AFC Hack''. With the "hack" you are still letting the stock MAP sensor see boost, I'm running a missing link, so my MAP doesn't see any boost at all.

Fast forward to today and you can easily have engine management for the cost of an AFC/FMU/440 setup. There are many more options and even more tuners around. So basically, what I have had in the car works, it has worked for a while - but for anybody asking me about it now...I always tell them to go with some sort of real engine management.

That EM1 hits boost every time I climb over that bar!

Your setup is similiar to mine, besides having the forged pistons. As long as you don't have a really thick Cometic headgasket, I couldn't see why it wouldn't reach 325whp @ 15psi. My headgasket is 2mm which is pretty thick, so it brings compression around 8.6:1. Another thing is that I am running a T3/TO4E 60 trim, with a .63 a/r on the exhaust.

From my experience the LS tranny isn't as fun or excellerates as fast as a B16A tranny. My bro has an LS trans in his turbo GS-R and the difference between his car and mine is night and day. If you are going to drag the car, my opinon would be to get your hands on a B16 or even better a Type-R trans.

With a good tune, you should def. see 300+, and the tuner should be able to do it on pump. Just do yourself a favor and get a dual stage boost controller. Save the 15psi and up for the track and those midnight runs, I would keep low boost at like 12psi for daily.

Good luck

A lot of people will tell you that they aren't needed. I just like assurance so I use one. I'm using the ERL 5-main girdle.

EDIT: Oh yea, and I rev to 8500....but its been tuned to 9200.

I use one as well. GSR girdle machined to fit the LS block. Ususally rev to 8600. Is it absolutely necessary, who knows? Did honda put it on the gsr and itr, yep.

Chrome Pipes,

i currently have my LS boosted, and i'm thinking about putting on a b16 head.

what are you revving your stock block to? im very curious because it seems like your setup is working great, and like you said, most ppl have told me that the stock bottom end is unreliable when revving high.

also, do you have a dyno sheet by any chance, i would really like to see the powerband on your setup, since mine will be almost identical.

thanks

Yeah. I think the only difference is the B16 has a slightly smaller combustion chamber so a little more compression with the same pistons. The combustion quenching may be a bit better in the GSR but I may be wrong on that.
