odd howling noise from turbo?
I noticed an odd howling noise that seems to be boost dependant. the car drives fine and idles fine and all. but the moment i get to around 10-12psi I hear this howling noise and the car will not get to full boost (20psi). I've never encountered this before so any help would be appreciated.

i can't answer your questions but posting what brand/size/bearingtype turbo you have will help someone more well versed answer your question...

A 'screaming' turbo that isn't supposed to usually indicates an balance issue, or bad bearings. Inspect the turbo fins VERY CLOSELY, I'd almost guess the wheels are contacting the housings, being chewed away, resulting in overspinning and underboosting.
Any idea on restrictor or feed line size? I would doubt its from overheating/oil coking due to the water lines, but you can still under-lube ball bearings. You could also have crap stuck in the oil supply passages, particularly if your feed comes from an unfiltered source like a cheap sandwich adapter.

Re: (paulzy)
yes this is a real garret. I hate the fact that if these turbos take a dump that you left with a paper weight. I may have to give the borg turbo's a shot. I really don't want to lose my boost response this turbo offered. But I can't afford to keep on dropping 1k on a turbo and can't even rebuild it. How much does it run to rebuild a s200 series borgs?

Garrett has an exchange program that allows you to get new CHRA, might want to look into that...

check your couplers dingle berry, mine use to blow off all the time when I had shitty piping and it use to sound exactly how you describe it and I would get boost but not as much.

I was going to say, check your BOV gasket, BOV, charge piping, couplers, etc. It's cheaper than a turbo, lol. Might as well start there.

Re: (Tippyman)
Yes, I figured it out. My coupler on the TB was loose and boost was leaking out like crazy. I tightened up the coupler and all is good now

Hopefully you didn't over-spin the turbo.
