OBD II and Turbocharging = Pain in the a$$
From what I've been told my Computer cannot manage the air fuel properly over 6psi in my 99 GSR, so what should I do? Someone had mentioned using an OBD1 comp or getting a Hondata. What would you do?

Re: OBD II and Turbocharging = Pain in the a$$ (99GSRT)
$1200 roughly from b18turbo here.
Just as much as a new ecu, OBD2->1 harness, and Hondata 4B with the rom burner and data logging.

Re: OBD II and Turbocharging = Pain in the a$$ (boostaholic)
No it's not true. You can still use an FMU to boost more than 6psi w/ an obd2 ecu just like an obd1 ecu.
Before deciding on what computer you should get, look around to see what tunners are around your area know what i mean? Unless you plan on tunning yourself.
AEM is a bit more expensive compared to going the hondata route and converting to obd1 but the EMS has alot of goodies!!

Your options are AFC+440 injectors, FMU, or standalone..... this not managing fuel stuff has nothing to do with obd1 neither can manage a/f and timing with boost because they aren't made for it.
Obd2 is just more angry when you put mods on it, stupid cel's like code 3 (baro sensor)

Re: OBD II and Turbocharging = Pain in the a$$ (MotorMatrix.com)
Before you order anything verify how they test emissions in your state. In Atlanta they now just hook up to your OBDII connector any CEL's, missing data, etc. you fail. Glad I found this out before I ordered the hondata.

Re: OBD II and Turbocharging = Pain in the a$$ (VTECPWR)
Could of fooled me. I have ran close to 1.3bar with stock obd2 computer. I have seen 450hp cars with obd2 ecus. Stock ecus too.

Yea what fuel systems were used on these "stock ecus" and how long did these motors last before being rebuilt.

What the hell fmu disk would you put in a car running an afc hack already? And how much boost are these cars pushing..... 120+psi of fuel pressure on a stock (minus injectors) fuel system can't possibly last all that long can it?

does the AEM EMS atleast come with some base maps? ive heard that with Hondatas they basically come blank and you have to write out your own fuel map just to get the thing to idle and not destroy your engine
if the AEM EMS is tunable by yourself with a laptop i would fork out the money for it

Re: OBD II and Turbocharging = Pain in the a$$ (shadowdawn)
of course the 255 fuel pump. 12:1 fmu. 1.3bar is like maxing out the injector at 5000-6000, after that still room for more boost. Integra and civic coupes mid to low 11s and hatch are close to 11.0s. Times depend on drivers.

is this your own car? did you tune the EMS yourself? what size turbo? im pretty sure i could make 306 @12lbs on a T78? what kind of mpg is this car getting?

The solution is simple. When it is time to smog, put the stock injectors and stock ECU back in.
It's a very small price to pay for the control and power that standalone tuning gives you.
