Default Not enough oil to turbo? (Garrett T3/60-1)

Well, I turned up the boost to 25lbs with my setup, and used 110 octane. About an hour later, my car was smoking like crazy and I thought I blew my motor. Upon taking things apart, we discovered my turbo took a ****. The shaft inside just moves around.

I sent it out to a turbo company locally here, and they discovered the verdict to be a lack of oil and the turbo overheated. Now, I was running an oil restrictor that I got made locally also. It had a .0625 hole drilled through. Could it be the oil restrictor that caused it? Restricted too much oil maybe? I don't want the same thing to happen to my new turbo ...

was the line clogged? I've personally been running that restrictor size for 2 years now on a non-BB turbo without problems.

could it have just been a bad turbo?

I got the restrictor made by a local shop here, they just got one of the fittings, welded it inside there and I drilled a .062 size hole. That shouldn't be a problem right?

Typical company trying to get out of a warranty. Tell them you set it up the way they suggested and it's thier problem.

no thats not a probalem and that way should work fine. you can weld the fitting or have the restrictor built into the oil line
it does not matter if its a -3 or -4 line as long as your running the correct .06 restrictor it should be fine

I'm not saying someone can't run a restrictor with that size line, but typically the rule of thumb is (generally speaking):

-3AN: no restrictor is needed
-4AN: it's iffy...but typically a restrictor is a good idea.

Perhaps that could be the reason?

you still shoudl run the correct sze restrictor with both the -3 or -4 line. a .3 line is much bigger than .06 on the inside

The only advice is to always ask the manufacturer how you should run the oil lines, because when ish goes south, thats the first thing they're going to say to wiggle their way out of fixing it.
