Not another water cooling "how do I run the lines" question-- kind of...
I just got my new ball bearing center section from phoenixturbo.com and put the turbo together, its awesome BTW My old turbo wasnt water cooled, and from searching and asking around I figured out that the most popular way was to run the lines from the TB lines in the back, but I had a different idea--- You know the bolt on the front of the block right next to the engine code, doesnt that go right back into the water jackets?? Why cant I just run the inlet from the TB lines like usual, and just have the outlet go right into there??? Has anyone done this, Im not even 100% sure that the bolt leads into the water jackets, can anyone confirm? Any other ideas on cleaner ways to run the lines, I was planning on using stainless steel hose also. Heres pics of the bolt, it looks like 17mm:

Umm..I don't think that would work because of the way the water flows. I could be wrong thou

yeah I dont know how the water flows in the damn engine, its not as easy as the oil line setup I guess.

I don’t know, it might work. The stock oil cooler just dumps into the back of the block as does the TB line. You could drill that bolt and tap it for a 1/8”- ¼” npt and put a barb in it. Now you got me thinking…………

I believe most guys run it from the Throttle body or right after the IACV (as a feed source) but dont quote me. As far as the return, you got me, but Im assuming it must be gravity fed back somewhere.

its pressure. the water pump pushes the water out the pipe in the back throu the head into the block and sucks it back into the pump again. you just need higher pressure on one side.

i dont see why you couldnt put a fitting there, the water jackets are pressurized... i would try it and see, just get a fitting and crank the motor over (pull the injector fuse or whatever so it doesnt start) and see if coolant comes out, just make sure to have a hose on there with the end of it higher than the head other wise its all going to pour out lol

damn, those look perfect, if I was using rubber hose. Im gonna use my old 8an stainless hose oil drain line though, so Im just gonna drill and tap the bolt that was in there and screw in the fitting. I took it out today, its a huge hole. I dont know where the best place would be to get the water feed from though, cause I would like to do stainless there too??? Does anyone have closeup pics of thiers?

I used 4an SS hose I had laying around, and I got all the fittings from a local shop, but summit racing has them--
3ft #4 SS hose,
2x- 4an to 1/4npt fittings (1 straight/ 1 45) (to turbo),
4x- 4an straight hose connectors,
2x- 4an to 1/8npt fittings (1 straight/ 1 45) (to engine)
Ill post pics up soon, Im having computer problems at home.

Sounds to me like it would work fine.
Why would you want to do this rather than just run both lines from the back of the engine? I mean, you have to have one line already going back there, adding one more isn't that big of a deal.
It will be cool because it's different. But, are there any other advantages?
