Default NooB turbo/b16a question

when you boost a b16a, do you retain the vtec, or is it turned off?
i read everything in the archives about b16a in Forced induction and didnt find anything related to it.

Im looking to achieve about 250+ WHp with hondata management. Im kinda stuck between choosing a b20 and sticking some forged slugs and shotpeening the rods, adn a b16a with forged pistons and shot-peened rods.

I understand the importance of a strong bottom end, and fuel management, but kinda confused with what would be a better platform to go with. I know the b16a has a better R/S ratio then the b20, but the b20 is going to make a lot more torque.

Yes you retain your vtec under boost. Make sure you have a good tuner available in your area with hondata. Your stock bottom end is fine up to about 7 psi. Anything more and you will want to upgrade it. About the b16\b20 I am not sure I bored out my b16 10mm. You could bore it up to 20. If you already have the b16 this would be cheaper.

you can run much more then 7psi on the stock bottom end witha well tuned b16. I'm running 7 on a SMC! and 9 at the track. my tuner said 10.5 on the stock bottom end of a b16 is fine (only because that as high as my MAP sensor would read).

i would go with the b16, or if you have a tighter budget, go with the LS

I achieved 258 whp & 201 ftlb of torque @ 10 lbs on my b16......and 274 whp & 218 ftlbs of torque @ 14 psi......I was running
-b16a2 with JE 9.1:1 Pistons, Eagle H-Beam Rods, ARP Head Studs, and GSR Cams
-Greddy TD05-18G Turbo with Greddy Manifold
-HKS SS BOV
-Greddy E-Manage
-Custom 2.5" Downpipe
-Godspeed 2.5" Testpipe
-Greddy Evo Exhaust
-RC 440 Injectors
-Greddy Profec B Boost Controller

I plan on running 12-14 on my stock bottom end b16a, maybe 16 on race gas.

i run their head gasket.

ooh ooh i also spiked to 1.5 bar today and its still alive

i didnt say it cant be done.....that is just pushing that motor pretty hard...10#s is pushing it hard.
i am curous to see dyno #s though ...good luck

what causes a boost spike? Different manifold designs? I noticed that some have a spot for a wastegate on a single runner while some are at the collector. also, what is the benifit of using a long tube/full length manifold? do you get a better/ more responsive /faster spool?

wastegate on the collector is always better than having it on a single runner...it makes for more even distribution and release of excess ehaust pressure.

A poorly designed wastegate, boost controller, or poorly routed vacuum lines can cause boos spike.

longer runners make for more smoother flow and better exhaust velocity (hence you're turbo will spool faster)

so if a longer runner is better/more efficient, then why are most on the designs short runner or log style?

what are some good long runner manifolds?

because they are cheaper to mass produce.

i am running a tubular = length manifold with the wastegate right off the collector.......my vacume lines were ran wrong.
everything is good now

needless to say i boost
