Default NOOB! Buying a used kit

I browsed a little through google and honda-tech search and found a few suggestions.
My question is, what defects should i look for when buying a used kit?
Things i know.
Turbo-Shaftplay in and out=bad/up and down=common but how much is too much? Check the wheel fins for damage
Manifold-check for cracks but will they be easily noticeable by eye?
Thats about all i know. The kit im interested in includes pretty much everything I will need guages, piping, oil lines, pan, injectors, bov, wastgate, etc..
What should i look out for in these parts.
All help appreciated

sounds like a pretty good set up.

when you get it make sure the turbo isn't leaking any oil from the seals. a little bit of shaft play is ok. even new turbos have a little bit of shaft play before you install them simply because they are not pressurized with oil.

i wouldn't really worry about having any cracks in your manifold. peakboost is a pretty good brand and is pretty good quality.

you will need to upgrade your map sensor if you plan on boosting more then 11psi. the stock map sensor will only read up to 11psi.

the most important part of your ENTIRE set up is tuning. just be sure you are ready to get tuned as soon as you put the set up on your car. not a week or 2 days or a month...get tuned as soon as the turbo is on your car. i cannot stress that enough.

how much power do you want to make? im guessing your engine is stock?

Thanks for the reply. I have stock ls that im rebuilding now; gaskets, bearings, and clutch(not sure which one yet). Id be happy with 220-250 whp, I'll be going to college so i want to keep it safe. He also has a chipped p28 but im not sure who tuned it. I was planning on just towing it to locash tuning right after it is put together.

So I picked up the kit today and everything looks good. Im going to need to modify the charge pipes to fit an ej8. If I go with a basemap and street tune, what psi would you recommend to meet my goals 220-250? t3/t4 .50 .63 stockls.

not exactly sure how much psi it will take because every motor is diffrent. it will depend on the condition of the motor, the turbo kit itself, the tune, etc.

I would say go a head and get tuned at 9psi since you have a stock map sensor. i wouldnt go any higher then that. that will probably put you around 230-260ish. keep in mind that im only guessing.

holy **** man lol. stock d16..wow. those are ***** slow lol. just remember do not boost AT ALL until you get tuned. i know it will be tempting but it only takes 1-2 seconds of being in boost to melt your pistons while untuned.
