My set of LS/CRV Eagle rods don't have an oil hole in the crank bearing end. Is this normal? My stock rods have a oil holes in them.

Is there an oiling hole at the small end of your Eagle rods?

The oil passage (on the oem rods) you are metioning probably run from the crank end to the piston pin end. If so.....that passage is supplying oil to the piston pin joint by stealing some oil from the crankshaft journal.

The Eagle rods acomplish the same thing with the oil hole in the small end. Proper intallation of the Eagle rods is nessesary though.

I've read that it is normal for the hole to be omitted on aftermarket rods. This is for increased strength apparently. Someone will be able to confirm this, who has more firsthand experience.

actually last time i looked at some ls rods the hole you speak of doesnt run directly center of the rod throughout the entire beam (this is called rifling). the stock rod has a hole that is offset to the side and is actually very short in length. this hole in the stock rod lubricates the cylinder wall acting like a squirter. aftermarket rods lack this hole and rely on the centrifugal force of the crank to sling oil to lube the walls. I always thought it was strange how aftermarket rods on LS motors lack this feature, but i guess it still works.

Get oem bearings, I have Eagle ESP rods in mine and they did not come with the hole you are speaking of. I brought one of my stock Ls rods to a machine shop I use and had them copy the geometry from it for a oil hole in the Eagle con rod. I have not seen this a lot, but they were there for a reason on the stock rod, so i figured play it safe. Very pleased, I have had my oil pan off a few times to screw with the gasket and checked out what I could see of my cylinders. Great condition, crosshatching is perfect from what I could see. You should be fine either way, gl

no need for a hole in the big end, the oil comes from inside the crank and squirts out the sides. Small end is lubricated from slung oil and what is scraped off with the control rings.
