Default Nitrous oxide vs compressor forced-induction question (chemical makeup vs power)

Nitrous oxide contains the same chemical substances found in regular air, being nitrogen and oxygen, but the ratio of oxygen to nitrogen is greater. Air contains approximately 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen (and 1% other substances). Nitrous oxide is roughly 36% oxygen and 64% nitrogen.

My question is: why is nitrous oxide so hard on the engine - particularly the bearings – when compared to compressor-based forced induction? A turbocharged engine is relying on the same chemicals but with a higher concentration of nitrogen. Is the nitrogen affecting the brute force of the combustion in some way?

I understand that nitrous is “sudden,” but with some sort of progressive controller it seems like it would not be any more violent than a high volume of compressed air.

Thanks to the guy with the book recommendation. I can't PM you back because I'm a noob. I'm on my way to order it right now.

i don't think the nitrous is worse with a progressive control but most people using nitrous are using it because its the best bang for the buck and if you start adding in a progressive controller the bang for the buck staqrts declining
