newly boosted, low vacuum pressure?
My car has been freshly turbo'd, installed my boost gauge today and it reads -22 at idle. Is this normal? I have my wastegate run to a manual boost controller the boost controller is then run to the intake manifold. From there I have a T fitting installed for my boost gauge. When I give the car alittle throttle it doesn't go higher than 0 on the vacuum, I am currently untuned and haven't revved past 4K.
Thanx in advance.

The vacuum at idle is normal.
You won't see boost until you put a load on the engine. That's why people brake boost, and not just free rev the engine to get the turbo to spool up.

Re: newly boosted, low vacuum pressure?
first of all i would run the wastegate source differently. wastegates were meant to be ran before the tb so they dont see vac. but you can throw in a one way check valve to fix it.
and yes, 22" of vac is normal.
and the turbo needs to have load on it for it to build boost.

Re: newly boosted, low vacuum pressure?
Thank you, what is brake boosting? Speaking of which man I disconnected the vacuum from my brake booster and from the intake manifold the other day. Today when I went to move my car I noticed my brake pedal is rock hard and the brakes barely work.

Brake boosting is when you use the brakes to keep the car at speed while you add more throttle to spool the turbo. This can be done from a stop or while in motion.
...and reconnect the brake booster. Power brakes are a nice thing to have.

brake booster needs vac to be able to have power brakes.
and yea you can brake boost to build boost but im not quite sure how you would do it whlie stopped..thats what 2step/launch control is for.

That's where heal-toe comes into play. Left foot on the clutch. Right foot on the brake and gas, slip the clutch enough to start putting a load on the engine, then launch by slipping off the brake, engaging the clutch and throttle. Not an easy technique (and not the best thing for your clutch), but works.

It's definitely addictive! I remember the first time I hopped in my roommate's Turbo II. First thing that popped in my head was, "I want this!!!" lol
Just make sure you don't go cranking up the boost randomly, unless you have a tune for it.
